Why don't we establish some sort of 'archive' board for old topics up to six month to a year ago or more so people can go back and respond to them instead of responding to them on the general discussion and member's discussion forums causing recent posts to get pushed pages back due to several posts over a year ago being bumped up by being responded too. It's not fair to those that post questions and such and barely get a chance to have their posts noticed before someone comes along and brings up a topic from six month to a year ago. This topic has been approached before but it never seemed to get addressed. It's frustrating when you go to post to a topic later figuring it'll still be on the first or 2nd page but then can't find them on either of those two pages because 10 more older posts from a year ago have replaced it's spot... I think it'd be a great idea for an archive board.

I think you missed the point... why should someone have to look for newer posts being bumped back pages because older posts have been bumped forward by one or two people replying to them in a lump sum?

That is the point I was trying to make and was made before. Newer posts that may be more relevant to be answered for some posters get bumped back a few pages with little chance to get replies when someone bumps up posts from a year or so ago.

My two cents worth: This would be less of an issue if the database that indicated which messages have been read worked consistently. I hate it when I come here and find that the board thinks there are no new messages when in fact there are many. When that happens I have to try and guess when I was last in each forum and read based on last-post date.

I just scan through each forum and check the time stamp on the threads against when I last logged off. It's like having the programming for the lighted globes in my head.

That works great if you always read all of the posts in a forum at one time. I tend to jump around a lot and pick off individual topics. The globes and the little green "unread message" flages are really useful when they work.
