Do I have a tic disorder?
I'm "wondering"/concerned that I might have a tic disorder.
It occurred to me a few days ago that certain (alternating) "things" I do seem to be very much like tics. The characteristics described on Wikipedia (yes, in itself, not the best source) under "Characteristics" on the "Tics" and "Tourette's Syndrome" pages, respectively, are exactly what I feel.
I can recall such things occurring "as far back" as four years ago. Previously (four years ago, the instance(s) I am remembering) my father and some classmates noticed a couple of things (such as shoulder jerking and incredibly frequent "tight" blinking) and very recently, several classmates have commented on my "making strange faces" whenever no-one's looking and in general "doing strange things".
One of my first cousins has Tourette's Syndrome, so I suppose that would increase the likelihood. Obviously "you" wouldn't be able to diagnose me, but what do you think?
The only requirement for a tic disorder is that you have tics (and they aren't caused by medication or something).
have one or more motor tics (for example, blinking or shrugging the shoulders) or vocal tics (for example, humming, clearing the throat, or yelling out a word or phrase), but not both.
have tics that occur many times a day nearly every day or on and off throughout a period of more than a year.
have tics that start before he or she is 18 years of age.
have symptoms that are not due to taking medicine or other drugs, or due to having a medical condition that can cause tics (for example, seizures, Huntington disease, or postviral encephalitis).
not have been diagnosed with TS.

Myself, I have tourettes, but I would say for myself it happens whether or not anyone is watching. have no control over whether I tic, but I have some control over how I tic - e.g. sometimes I feel a sweary tic, or a complex phrase tic and I can turn it into a whistle tic instead. But like you said no one can diagnose you.
It's not that I only do those things when people aren't looking, I just mentioned that the people who mentioned it see it that way. I can't "change tics" like that at all, it's almost like a specific area is itchy; I can't scratch another area to make it not itchy and I can only postpone it until the itch becomes unbearable.
