It would be nice to have a spell checker on the site for those of us who can't spell and those of us who can't stand reading mispelled and or misused words. This type of feature could also help out our non-native english speakers on the board. A grammar check would be nice too. I personally am one of those peolpe who can't help but correct someone when they say something incorrectly.

Anyone else agree/disgree? :D

I voted yes, but for me I don't really need it because I have a late version of Firefox which comes with a Spell Checker.

Why can't people just be careful with how they spell their words? I almost always correct mine.....

If you absolutely have to use Internet Explorer (be it personal preference, access restrictions, whatever) you could always load up a text editor like Microsoft Word or OpenOffice, type your post, spell-check, then copy / paste it. That would add the grammar check, though I don't know if that is as important or necessary with an informal setting such as this.

Well, unless IE has some spell-check capability. I honestly wouldn't know, haven't used it in a couple years.

I mean besides dyslexics? I swear, I'm sure most of the people do it out of laziness, not due to medication (hyperion is a case in point, of one affected by meds) or dyslexia (I know a dyslexic, so don't think I'm being cruel).

That's the problem with spell-check. It works, if you care enough to use it.

I meant bad spelling and grammar. Not spell-check.

My first posts were riddle with spelling errors and I did not include words I had no chance of spelling. In my case you could tell me how to spell the same word a hundred times and I would still get it wrong. Its really a neurological condition. Oh my point is some of these "lazy" people are just dyslexic who have given up trying to spell correct.
Even words that I learned memory tricks for like diesel I in the last few months reverted back to spelling it "diecel". So its hopeless. :)

I think thats what the OP is asking for. I had no idea there were plugins for spell checking in your browser till I read about it in a thread in this disccusion area on the same subject.

Also I'm not a spelling nazi I'm okay with people spelling words wrong.

Well, for grammar I don't think it would be quite as big of a deal here, unless the post is completely unintelligible. (Just misspelled unintelligible. Thanks useful red underline!)

You forget. I'm a grammar nazi. I've been reading since at least 6 (my mum says 4). I have an English vocabulary Dr Johnson would have neutered himself with a blunt butter knife to note down in his dictionary. So I have pretty high standards for English usage, even if they are expletives.

Hah I can appreciate that. Hopefully my posts aren't too terribly painful to read. Grammar bothers me only when it is absolutely atrocious, but spelling is the thing that really gets to me.

Things like using "u" instead of "you" also get to me. Is it really so hard to type the first two letters of that word? Does it really take that long?

Nah, your posts are good. But you use spell-check, and that's cheating. I can honestly say that I rarely use spell-check even in word. Occasionally, because I still suffer from what I call 'situational dyslexia' (ie, I spell the words wrong because of rapidity of typing, etc), the auto-correct can be a life-saver, but I always look at what I am typing....

I use spell check in every post I make and if I forget there will be misspellings.

The question is how many people will actually use it.

BTW - the damned FF spellcheck dictionary is missing
a lot of words, and doesn't tend to be very useful.
