[Jason] DaSilva will return to Utah, where the movie premiered at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival, to receive the Peek Award for Disability in Film. The Utah Film Center gives the award each year to someone in the media who improves society?s perception of people with disabilities. The award is named for Kim Peek, the Salt Lake City savant who was the basis for Dustin Hoffman?s character in 'Rain Man.' That film?s screenwriter, Barry Morrow, has permanently loaned his Oscar to Salt Lake City in memory of Peek, who died in 2009....
I didn't know about the Peek Award for Disability in Film until I read this report. While Kim Peek didn't have autism, it is interesting that there is an award for this kind of filmmaking.
