Is this paranoia, hallucinations, or what?
I can completely relate to this experience, Goofygoobers, and to many of the posts that have followed. I have had precisely that sense that something 'evil' has entered the room and it affects me physically. I have a tingling over my skin. Now, I often have precisely this feeling when someone actually does enter a room, even before I've heard or seen them! Friends have said that I seem almost 'psychic' in this respect. So, when I have this same physical sensation and it's accompanied by a feeling of deep malevolence, then I'm tempted to believe in it!
I've also had extremely disordered and destructive thoughts that seem related to the same sort of presence. This sounds like psychosis, but I've been assessed by doctors who rule that out because I never lose sight of reality in these situations. The feelings an thoughts are damn real, but they do not take me away from my sense of self - thanfully!
As a Catholic, I do believe in the reality of evil and that demonic influences can prey upon the vulnerable. But I think this is rare, and that often our vivid interior lives are triggering sensory stimuli that affect us in ways that are complex and not that susceptible to rational analysis. I would advise that you develop a mantra to protect yourself against whatever you're feeling. For me, it's the Hail Mary, but it could be anything and I don't want to suggest that you need tp pray if you're not actually a part of any Christian tradition. Still, it can be helpful! ![]()
