I can’t do simple tasks

I have always done things the “wrong” way, or have had trouble with what others would assume to be common sense. Ever since I was young, as far back as I can remember, I have had trouble with what everyone instinctually knows how to do. When I’m asked to do something verbally I don’t always understand what they’re asking, and my mom and partner have gotten aggravated. My mom told me I had trouble buttoning my shirt/tying my shoes etc. as a child. It just makes me feel stupid. I guess I am not asking for advice here, just wondering if anyone else here can relate.

I struggle with a lot of those sorts of tasks. I was 9 or 10 when I finally learned to tie my shoes consistently.

I still to this day get my rights and lefts mixed up while driving when someone says “Go right/left” and I have no idea why.

I write with my right, otherwise I'd struggle to remember. I don't usually have to rely on that mnemonic consciously but I wouldn't have one if I never needed one.

I had issues w/ clothing myself properly (buttoning things, putting clothes on backwards, etc. lol) and tying my shoes as a kid.

I do things the "wrong" way, too, but if something works I honestly DGAF and just find people pestering me about it to be a waste of time.

I also need very precise directions and visual examples of how to do things, I don't just "figure out" things like people expect me to.

I did have issues remembering left and right throughout my life, though I've started to figure it out a lot quicker. The thing about keeping in mind which hand is dominant (my right one) helps me.

Anything 50/50 messes me up. True/False questions, if I had any doubt, I would be stuck reading the damn question three times. Left/Right, port/starboard messes with everybody's head at one time, but I do feel I have to be extra careful in communications.

I think my forgetting left and right has to do strictly with the fact that my mind is so focused on driving, I forget. Driving is stressful to me, unless I’m on backroads and know exactly where I’m going, I don’t like it much. If there aren’t many cars/distractions it’s ok, and I do better.
