What I usually do is one hour of cardiovascular training on the elliptical machine, followed by some weight lifting and 25 minutes of sit-ups. I do that about 4 to 5 times a week. It makes me feel great, exercise is an excellent antidepressant and it builds self-confidence. I usually play loud heavy metal in the background to make it less boring.

I wish that I had the same drive that you guys have. The world stresses me out so much, that I feel that I need more rest, than exercise. I do manage to go for walks, though.

Walking is great. I think any kind of exercise does the trick. It's a matter of what suits you best. As long as you keep active. I used to eat a lot, compulsively, and sleep all the time, and it made me feel depressed; when I started working out my whole life changed for the better.

I started seriously riding my bike about a month ago. The last two weeks I have put more miles on it than I have on my car. I'm training to do this- http://www.shinergasp.com/ - a 90-mile ride from Austin to the Spoetzl Brewery in Shiner, Texas. Maybe I'm crazy, but there's beer at the end of it so how bad can it be?

That sounds like fun!

Tim

90 miles is a looooong way on a bike. The first 60 miles were great. The last 30- not so much. But the fresh beer at the end was worth it and I'll probably do the ride again next year. Next month I'm doing a similar ride- http://www.wurstride.com/ A 60-miler from Austin to New Braunfels that also has beer that the end.

I belong to a gym (I just joined a new one)
I only get a membership in the colder months though, because when it's warmer I go for very long daily walks, swim frequently, and I do have my own set of home weights. The weight equipment in the gym is so much better though :D

Now that I have a gym membership, I go with:

45 minutes of cardio (I switch which cardio equipment I use based on which one is farthest away from the majority of the other people), followed by weight lifting...alternating days of upper body/lower body. I also do Yoga.

Nope, I'm not skinny or anything. I have a fairly recently diagnosed thyroid problem (And not the kind that makes you skinny :( ) so I actually have to work to maintain my curvy shape or else it will turn in to a "Michelin tire man" type shape.

I'll try prettymuch anything that has a training style (Yoga, Aikido, TaeKwonDo, TaeBo,) and I'm really bad when it comes to buying shiney exercise toys, working the heck out of them for a few months, then letting them gather dust.

So far the only stuff I've found I can be really consistent with is TaeKwonDo, weightlifting and a few basic abdominal exercises.

I keep meaning to actually join a Yoga class so I'll practice it more often but i never do, and the same DVDs get boring after the 30th time.

I am thinking about quitting martial arts to make more time for school, and focusing on weight-lifting again. I don't plan on ever fighting at this point, and I have been feeling like my training has been a bit of a burden lately.

Most of the people I've spoken to who've given up on martial arts have said that they wish they'd kept at least somewhat related to it - I.e that instead of quitting completely they'd just scaled back to 1 session per week, or even 1 session a fortnight, or something similiar instead. Apparantly it is very depressing to rekindle martial arts as an old interest and realise you really suck compared to how you used to be.

There are a lot of benefits to martial arts you wont get from weightifting anyway. Stamina, speed, proprieception, flexibility - all these things suffer from a regimine of weightlifting only.

True. I will have to think about this. I am just sick of injuries, and getting beaten up. Dunno if I should take a break, scale back, or what. Training for me is just a hobby, and I love the sport... I just don't know what to do.
