As a teenager I was a highly intelligent academic underachiever, but young for my age when it came to being self reliant. The sh*t hit the fan belt when trying to please my parents by getting to university, while being very aware I didn't have anywhere near the necessary independent living skills. The high anxiety and stress over that resulted in my becoming severely mentally ill. I think, correct me if I'm wrong, that it was a classic case of 'asynchronous development'. Back in the mid 1970s there was not the help and support for teenagers like me that there is now.
Can identify with most of this post ., But stress of trying to live on my own. And have a income and go to Uni . broke the back of my capabilities . Snd my parents could not did not wish to support me in anyway financially. And as it was something had to give. Unfortunately it was education . But did find short term trade school to get certified and go into a slightly higher paying profession , and did find . I learned more quickly by hands on education it appeared .And expanded my knowledge base , which allowed me to make better comparison of being around people . Prior to that was just primarily ,my only human environmental learnings had come from a abusive familial upbringing . Which pretty much stunted me for life . In those interpersonal aspects of life . Not that I did not come pre- stunted based on the autism. But Autism was fairly unknown , back in those days,
