There was a 'Page not found' error.

I think a part of this post might be missing?

Oh that must be because I am the only one who can look at unpublished drafts for my blog posts so I will need to correct that by publishing the post!! !

It's not quite ready to be fully published just yet but I will post an excerpt:

Analysis of Fictional Character Relationships

After playing the Nintendo Switch video game Super Monkey Ball: Banana Rumble and learning that the 2 main characters AiAi and MeeMee are a couple it made me think of other fictional character relationships across video games & TV shows

In video games we of course have long-established character relationships such as Mario and Peach, Link and Zelda, Sonic and Amy (more SEGA!! !), etc

In TV shows we have the unconfirmed romance of Squidward Tentacles and Sandy Cheeks

They are being hinted at yet AGAIN in a promotional standee display for the new SpongeBob SquarePants movie Search for SquarePants

If you look closely at the picture you will notice that Sandy is putting her arm around Squidward

Ooh…what could that mean?

Unlike with Super Mario Bros., Legend of Zelda and Super Monkey Ball Sandy and Squidward aren’t yet confirmed as a true “couple”

What is the difference between Mario & Peach, Link & Zelda, AiAi & MeeMee and Squidward & Sandy?

The answer is SO obvious!! !

I mean besides the fact that the first 3 sets of couples originated from video game series while the other came from a cartoon…

Why is Paramount/Nickelodeon so hesitant to confirm the romantic relationship of Sandy Cheeks and Squidward Tentacles?

There could be only ONE reason!

Think hard about the species of the characters…

Sandy is a squirrel while Squidward is an octopus

Putting them together as a couple would create controversy because the show would be promoting beastiality

The only way that Squidward and Sandy could possibly be together is if their relationship stays unconfirmed

This explains all the hints regarding their pairing!

I mean consider this scenario:

What would happen if the characters actually got married in the new movie?

How much backlash would that create?!?

Enough to possibly cause CANCELLATION, which Nick cannot risk!! !

Therefore if Squidward and Sandy DO end up saying “I do!” to each other it should be done at the series’ conclusion!

At that point, nothing in the cartoon would matter anymore

They can safely get married without causing any irreversable damage to the IP!!

Unless, Nick WANTS to irreversibly cause damage to SpongeBob then by all means…GO CRAZY!! !! !!

At the risk of being pedantic, I don't think a relationship between Sandy and Squidward could be considered bestiality. That would refer to a human with a non-human animal. Both Sandy and Squidward are anthropomorphic animals but neither are human. They are a different species but neither is a human, so it doesn't fit the definition.

Granted, I know that's a nitpick. Semantics and all that. Putting that aside for a moment, I can't really imagine them as a couple. The pessimistic artist with the optimistic scientist. Well, I suppose you could play it as an opposites attract type of situation. Not a potential pairing I've ever considered, but I haven't watched the show in a long time.

If it were to happen, it wouldn't be the main focus of the show and could possibly be played comedically.

Usually when I see parents complain about cross-species relationships in cartoons, it's when a prey animal starts dating an animal that would realistically eat them. This complaint is usually because parents don't want to give their children the wrong idea about the food chain and they worry that their kids might try to leave certain animals together, only to learn first hand about how nature can be.

However, in the case of Sandy and Squidward, an octopus and a squirrel...well, they are two animals that would never meet in real life. So I don't think parents would be as concerned.
