There are some meds that can sometimes help with weight loss. I'm not exactly recommending that but I do think it might be helpfull to talk to a GP type doc &/or psychiatrist about your problems with losing weight. Us autistics do tend to be on various psych meds & some psych meds can contribute to weight gain while others can sometimes help with weight loss. Plus various autistic mental issues & comorbids can sometimes contribute to weight gain & better addressing those issues might help with weight loss.

Without knowing anything about your dad or his advice, my suggestion was 165 as a good weight for that height.

I think reducing calories and follow the diet advice of auntblabby above in the thread is the solution. Physical exercise is good for the health but it is extremeley hard if not impossible to lose weight that way.

Exercise can increase metabolism but you're right, ultimately what's needed is a caloric deficit.

Currently weigh 164 lbs without clothes on in the morning. During lockdown when I wasn’t going to the pub on the weekend at my lowest I got down 158 lbs in the morning

I know this thread is a bit old, but I wanted to share my experience too. I turned to Minimal about six months ago and finally managed to lose the extra weight that was holding me back. What really made the difference was having a clear plan and someone to keep track of my progress.

Personally I have found intermittent fasting to be the best method for me to lower my weight and feeling healthy.

I shed over 5st with a low carb (not crazy regimented or slavishly adhered to) and IF approach; they compliment each other as carb/sugar foods burn up quickly and demand replenishment. Cutting them out breaks the cycle.

That said a lot of people struggle with what I do/did (eat nothing until dinner ~ 7pm) whereas I just breezed through, but then I never cared much for breakfast anyway and could easily forget lunch when busy. A lot of people want to wax lyrical about "the answer" but I think you need to find what works for you.
