Hi...

Was here years ago, email still seems to be known but pass reset fails, enough changed since for a new...

Used to be male (opinions vary to the extend  strictly speaking an I but that's on a technicality... I don't even know and it doesn't really change stuff...), used to live online (withdrawn from most socials), had a 'probably asperger' diagnoses and figuring out what to do with it...

Still figuring out what I am, officially female (is better to look at in the mornings but well... just not into people...). Took long (wrong direction with the wrong therapists) to get an official stamp (by then, asperger didn't exist anymore and at least one 'official' institution labels me as Infantile (old version icd codes... they need something to write down) Facebook etc became to 'regular people' and after defending them as 'A way for talking to people for the not so gifted socialisers', regular people caught up and blame the platforms for turning it into a cesspit. Last year it got too obvious that I wasn't wanted over there anymore.
I am starting out as a weaver now (Inkle/rigid heddle... got a shaft loom but need training wheels first), trying to be careful with new hobbies. Back to somewhat ICT for the government (sounds worse than it is, nice people in my team and by now close on being my longest running employment... )

Inkle is very small and even the smaller version (I use it on the train to work and waiting rooms). It really started as finding something else to do on a train.
Others are table looms (50cm), no floor looms. Both fold and technically 'portable' (as in 80s luggables) but require too much place when set up (rigid... perhaps... has its carry bag but needs room)

The threading is indeed the difficult bit and the tension (not too much, not too little and most important... even) but I'm not up to real difficult bits yet.

(other) 'mass' social media was hard to leave. It was the place were I felt alive... very open about everything with people I actually knew somewhere in my life but in the end I got too worked up about the constant 'nobody likes you' posts from unknown people/organisations and comments of real unknown people agreeing... cooldown periods became longer than actual being online. Now I need to learn to stay away from news sites (hln -our local most trashy newspaper were you meet the best people at their best- has my comments blocked which might not be a bad thing... )

Welcome back!

I've learned to play golf! I've found that if I wear women's clothes, everyone thinks I'm a woman, even after playing golf with me for an hour or more!

I used to male fail all the time when I used to have a full beard.

Used to have a full beard (unix tradition but less groomed) :D My voice is a breaking point, clearly male. From a LOOONG distance I pass.

Lot of shaving but on the bright side... The 'male' versions in my family are happy with the bits they still have. It is not pink... want to but 50+ and afraid of hairdressers... don't like people touching me.

Should make my posts shorter

Hi and welcome back. I used to post a lot back in the day. Maybe you remember me. Anyway, this place has sure slowed down. Maybe some new life can be added to it to make it like what it used to be.

I don't even know if I was very active back then. Was figuring out a lot. Don't even know the name I used, doubt my own, doubt my regular forum use name. (this one I can't forget, is my own)

How is the weaving going?

I spin a lot so I got myself a loom a while back, but it was too complicated for me, I never got the hang of it.

I loved reading about old weaving songs and the bits of metrical poetry encoded in ancient textile patterns. I still think looms are exciting. But the spindle is more my speed, really.

I am new, but I am glad you came back!

Used to spin when I had my own angora bunny (mixed it with other fiber, angora 'pure' is possible but hard - even the "pure angora" you buy is max 20% and industrial angora is harvested in a cruel way). Was difficult back then to get fiber, now I know where to get that, I no longer have spinning wheel :) Spinning wheels are expensive these days... (majacraft was the 'big beautiful' one everybody looked up to and saved for 'maybe one day', seems to be of the between the cheaper now...) Could be because my weaving shop is really a spinner and just has more toys available.

Bad memories getting rid of spinning materials ('selling too cheap' angry calls for weeks) so better not to start that again.

Took some steps back and sticking to easier rigid heddle for a while. All dressed up for first leno... (mother donated BIG cone of somewhat unsuitable slippery yarn... Bit lacy stuff so might be ok for leno but hard to tie on...). Was setup originally for another attempt to go to lgbt knitting/yarn group but already brain telling me to skip. Need to get out but too afraid to fail... (benefit of 'portable' looms...)

Learned about sprang... looks like another fun thing to try with yarn... (probably also with homespun yarn, think weaving and certainly at my skill level not suitable for it)

Ooohh I shall try sprang, thank you for the tip! That would suit me perfectly. I need something to do with this worsted.

I am lucky because I am surrounded by sheep farmers and there are often very nice fleeces. But I would love to spin angora. Surely that would be an absolute delight to the senses.

...got distracted by pics of angora bunnies... gosh, adorable.

I remember Majacraft :) I like antiques, when you can get them without any Guests in the wood.

It's been a while since I've been to groups but I always found them really relaxed and positive. I was always very nervous, always very glad I'd gone. I hope you enjoy it if you do decide to go
