As a teenager, I read a YA book the first name of the heroine of which was Salamanka - Sal for short. That's because her great grandma (?) was supposed to come from the tribe of Salamanka but no, it turned out later on the name of it was Seneca - but the name for the girl stayed with her. Her middle name was Tree in turn :D Does anyone know what book was it?

P.S. I know what it is now - I just checked. :D It was Walk Two Moons by Sharon Creech. I loved also another book of this author - the one about a teen whose annoying cousin paid them a visit for the entire summer.

Like Shasta Groene - the child survivor of a serial killer 8O

In Poland you can't give your baby just basically ANY name like you, inhabitants of English speaking countries. There are some rules, like the name can't put the child into ridicule, like by the name being a vulgar word or a name of an item etc. And the name for a girl has to end with an a - like my nickname on WP could be given to a baby girl only in the Irulana form - anyway, the name of Irulan Corrino was indeed translated as Irulana in one of the Dune translations.

Btw, Maja is an extremely common name in the youngest generation here in Poland - so extremely common that every time I hear about a child/teen/young woman of this name, I think: are those people seriously out of names? :x I think everybody should have their own individual name. If I had children, I would give them extremely rare names.
