yeah I thought they were a bit racist too and no it was a white guy who made Popeyes

We hear the name Popeye and we automatically think of the cartoon sailor, but I read that it's actually named after some fictional movie or TV detective, which is just weird. No spinach in the restaurant as far as I know.


It was named after Popeye Doyle in the French Connection. He was played by the late, great Gene Hackman.
