https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dynasty_(1981_TV_series)

Yes, THIS cult classic - at least here in Poland, back in the 90's :D The whole country LOVED this TV show - no idea if it was so EXTREMELY popular in the US too. The Polish streets got empty back when the TV show was aired on TV. I remember my very favorite character ever was Alexis Colby :D This show also introduced me (I was like 6 then) to the concept of homosexuality - or bisexuality in this case because Steven was a married man when he met his male lover (I don't remember his name though). I also remember that Krystle and Blake had a baby daughter who needed a heart transplant and that Fallon got abducted by UFO at some point :D

Do you know this show? I'm asking here about the 80's version and not about the new, modern one. In Poland, as I said, it used to be a cult classic, all the rage in the 90's back in my childhood. Was it just as popular in the USA? I also remember when I was a little girl, I used to collect some chewing gum stickers with the Dynasty characters on, I remember I had for example one with Alexis wearing an elegant red dress.

Both Steven and Fallon were played by two different people.

I also love pointing out the geopolitical errors in the infamous "Moldavian Massacre" episode.

I remember seeing this as a kid. This and Dallas were the big two (in Belgium). Dallas had JR, and Dynasty had Alexis (Joan Collins). I remember there was a fight scene between Linda Evans and Joan Collins, and it was all of the popular culture magazines in my grandparents house.

It was very popular in the U.S. I did not watch it, but my sister, who was thirteen years younger (mathematically, she still is) watched, as did my mom. I think my wife watched it as well. I did not. I was aware that Linda Evans was on it and was amazed how different she looked from when she was in her mid-twenties and on The Big Valley, back in the 1960s.

It was difficult not to be aware of the goings on with Alexis in the 1980s. How did the show personally touch me? My younger sister (still 13 years younger) named her first daughter Alexis. Yes. She named her after the Joan Collins character. Fortunately, my niece is a very nice young lady.

Was Alexis a common name back then? I don't think so, I think this name was quite an uncommon one, am I right? And from what I remember, Alexis had a sister whose name was Sable - yes, like this animal (though back when I was a child born and raised in Poland, my knowledge of English was of course, still veeeery limited and I had no idea a sable is an animal).

At the very beginning of the century there was this Polish medical TV show "For Good and for Bad" aired by our TV and so maaaaaaaaaaaaaany little girls born then, got the names from the show - Lena and Julia. Lena was a rare name before it got so SUPERCOMMON in the youngest generation and Julia - well, maybe it wasn't rare but it wasn't common either and it was basically a grannie name (though the owner of this name in the show was a young girl) - even if not a STRIKINGLY grannie one :)

It was a common baby name in the 80s. Another was Erica, which cane from the soap opera All My Children.

Weird, the Dynasty Alexis was the only Alexis I've ever heard of 8O . My own name Magdalena was very common in Poland back then. But it isn't anymore.
