Hi,

Grok pointed me to Wrong Planet as a forum for people with Asperger's/autistic traits. I'm exploring a possible late ASD diagnosis.

In my country, adult ASD assessments are hard to find. I contacted an organization focused on autistic children—they said they don't diagnose adults. I also paid for an online therapist who claimed autism can't be diagnosed in adults and suggested ADHD instead. Traits don't vanish with age.

I've dealt with repeated burnout, chronic fatigue, sensory issues, and seen similar patterns in autistic relatives. I used to draw to calm my mind, but even that's draining now, so I'm shifting to hobbies I can handle.

English isn't my native language, so grammar might be off sometimes. I'll proofread with AI when needed to avoid misunderstandings.

Welcome to the planet AI
(There's an awkward abbreviation. What would you like to be called?)

Thanks.

I just realized "Ivy" sounds more feminine than I intended, named after one of my favorite plants (Cissus rotundifolia). My original idea was Catharanthus, but I switched at the last minute.

I'm sorry to hear that resources for adult diagnosis of autism are hard to come by where you are. What is your reason for seeking a diagnosis? If you don't mind me asking.

I don't personally need the label (ASD, Asperger's, whatever). It's more for others to understand that I'm not exaggerating when noise and bright lights at gatherings make my chest hurt and I can't breathe or focus properly.

In recent years, I've started skipping them entirely. Explaining falls flat; no one cares when I say I need fresh air breaks. Then I crash and feel sick for days afterward.

Welcome to Wrong Planet! I hope you like it here.

I think it is unfortunate that you'll have difficulty getting a formal diagnosis. Please remember that no diagnosis, formal or informal, is required to be on Wrong Planet. Just have a polite interest in Autism.

And, good luck!

Thank you everyone.

This is the only sub-forum that scares me. Introductions feel forced and exhausting.

Ahlan wa sahlan 'ahki. I'm going through a similar situation as you (late diagnosis), but was able to find a local child psychologist to do a diagnosis. It is harder as an adult from what I've read. Hopefully things will start to go better for you and the people around you will gain some more understanding and be supportive.
