For those who haven't heard of this, the son of the wife of Norway's Crown Prince Haakon, Marius Borg Høiby, is going on trial for a large number of charges including four rapes.

His mother married Crown Prince Haakon making Marius Borg Høiby the step-son of the crown prince. He has no royal title or duties.

For what it's worth, my nephew claimed that he is looking at 60 years in prison. In reality, though, the usual maximum sentence is 21 years. Even Breivik who murdered a large number of children and adults at a youth camp only got 21 years. Note, however, that if he is found to still be a danger, the courts can order him to be held another five years in a process that can be repeated over and over again.

The trial, which starts today, includes 38 charges: in addition to rape, assault in a close relationship, violation of a woman's privacy, damage to property, violence, violation of a restraining order, death threats, serious drug offenses and traffic offenses. He can be sentenced to 16 years in prison if he is found guilty of all charges. But 5-7 years is more likely.

That's a lot of charges. 16 years sounds about right for Norway, though.

Ah, yet another spoilt member of the social elite caught engaging in the centuries old practice of "abusing the peasants" for indulging their personal gratification.

Royals have a special place among the elite for being completely out of touch with the reality most of the rest of us plebs experience, being cotton balled from birth in luxury to the moment they expire.

I imagine young Marius thought he was just "sowing his wild oats" like his daddy before him and most of his male royal counterparts elsewhere from a young Prince Andrew to the Saudi royals to the Sultan of Brunei. People need to stop putting royals on pedestals. Like nepo babies of rich celebrities (*cough* Brooklyn Beckham), they have developed an unearned feeling of entitlement that they can take whatever they want.

For what it's worth, he is not a royal. His mother is married to a royal, but he isn't.

Probably explains why he got caught, no security detail.

He has already been placed under arrest again.

From https://www.newsinenglish.no/2026/02/02/crown-princess-son-lands-in-jail-just-before-his-trial-begins/:

Quote:
The Oslo Police District confirmed to state broadcaster NRK and other Norwegian media on Monday afternoon that Høiby was arrested Sunday night. He’s been charged with threatening one of the same women he’d attacked earlier, this time with a knife. He’s also charged with inflicting bodily harm and for violating the restraining order that was earlier issued to protect her.

...

The Oslo County Court granted police requests to keep Høiby in police custody after his arrest on Sunday. The court ordered he be held for at least four weeks, until March 2, while police continue to investigate the new charges against him. After that a court will likely be asked determine whether his custody should be extended.

“The court believes there is probable and reasonable cause to suspect him of the three posts in the preliminary charges” filed on Monday against Høiby, read the custody order from the Oslo County Court released late Monday afternoon. “It is more probable that the defendant is guilty than not guilty of the charges.”

...

His mother, meanwhile, is now in trouble of her own: Crown Princess Mette-Marit had to admit and elaborate over the weekend to a three-year relationship with the convicted American sex offender Jeffrey Epstein before Epstein is believed to have committed suicide in prison.

Mette-Marit was a highly controversial figure at the time of her engagement to Haakon in 2000. She was raised in a working class family, and she had relationships with several men convicted of drug-related crimes One of them was Marius' father, Morten Borg. He never had a serious relationship with Mette-Marit, only a short fling and has never had the "role as father" for Marius. Morten is a financial analyst. In the early 1990s, he was sentenced to two years in prison after being caught with 50 grams of cocaine.

Thanks. That's a lot of good information to know.
