There will never be a great socialism now that there are too many libertarians, anarchists, and other non-ML tendencies standing in the way with their united front ever more powerful to keep capitalism satisfied. But they'll say that socialism "harmed people". It didn't. The reason why they say it "did" was because the Marxist-Leninist model (ML) emphasized collective unity and disregarded petty individual issues.

Could you give some examples of these "petty individual issues" you are referring to? And did the ML governments truly "disregard"/ignore them, or did they punish people for talking about them or acting on them? If the latter, why?

That presented an offense to the more individual "leftists" who thought that because MLs advocate for party vanguard to guide the unity, meant that they would no longer get to enjoy their liberties.

I'll be honest. True freedom is about one being able to eat food, drink water, live safely, have a family, and be able to work and get paid well. As well as not being discriminated for their career and living. Whatever petty issue one has, should not be up to the party to discuss, nor even think about promoting or bringing up to the party.

Could you give an example of what you mean by a "petty" issue?

And whatever decadent tendency one may have, should be controlled as much as possible to prevent harm on others as to prevent potential destabilization of socialism.

Could you give some examples of what you mean by "decadent" tendencies and how they would cause "harm to others" or (intrinsically) cause "destabilization of socialism"?

@Mona Pereth

1. For example, things such as prostitution, porn, and narcotics were banned in the USSR. It was a good thing because this actually improves someone's life.

2. Petty as in demanding unnecessary amount of freedom such as the right to drink alcohol, to smoke, to do narcotics. I believe in freedom as in being able to live as a good citizen and not as a gangster in the streets.

3. As listed in no. 1, decadent tendencies are porn, prostitution, narcotics, alcohol, smoking, and overall opening up to spread of foreign influence.

Socialism as defined by Leninists is as you say, but since when did Leninists have the monopoly on defining socialism?

The moment their model was successful around the world. In Eastern Europe and Asia. Even Yugoslavia followed good old Lenin.

If you're calling what the Leninists built a success it would seem we might be unable to agree on how to define success.

Just a reminder: under international law, an occupying power has no right of self-defense, and those who are occupied have the right and duty to liberate themselves by any means possible.

I mean, nobody wanted anarchism or libertarianism back then, so they just went along with Marxism-Leninism until 1989-1991. Now most people are libertarian or anarchist. Western influence ruined European communist parties in the post-Soviet world.

The Bolsheviks won largely because they were the most effective and least scrupulous band of thugs in a collapsing empire filled with competing bands of unscrupulous thugs.

I disagree that learning from the shortcomings of the Soviet model amounts to 'ruining' European communist parties. Even the Soviets themselves repeatedly reimagined their system, but so has every other Marxist-Leninist state. Learning from previous failures and adapting ideology to fit real life circumstances and local cultural norms isn't a bad thing.

While you might see fit to put a murderer like Lenin on a pedestal, I trust Emma Goldman's observations more than someone who never experienced living under that system. The west doesn't need to look to Lenin though, we have a long leftist tradition that predates and/or overlaps with Lenin.

I'm sorry that people have soured on murders like Lenin, but personally I look more towards groups like the Wobblies, One Big Union and people like Queen Silver, Daniel DeLeon, Emma Goldman and Tommy Douglas.

Leninism is literally dystopian socialism and I don't want to be a part of your revolution if I can't dance.
