Dad wants to illegally make me a contractor.

My dad wants to have me work on the ranch and also do work for him when he go out to the country at another place. He wants to have me on as a contractor. But the thing is if he controls my work and tells what to do legally he supposed to hire me on a W2 employee and he doesnt not give me the benefits and workplace protections I would be owed legally.

He wants to pay me 50 per hour but the he would be saving 20 to 30 percent on his labor costs by illegally making me a contractor. Also he would prefer to pay me under the table but I want to pay taxes and file a tax return but my dad wont hire me as employee so we are at impasse. What should I do? I know the liklihood of major trouble is low but I want to legally follow the law. I dont know what to do since my dad is the only one who will hire me.Do I just not take the job? I wish my dad would just comply with the law.

How desperately do you need the job, can you refuse to take it if he doesn’t hire you properly. He might just hire someone else illegally if you don’t choose the job and get in your head by annoying you over it

well its the only job I can get anytime soon. My dad wont let me go with him to the ranch most likely if I dont work with him but he refuses to make me be W2 employee so he would not be able to tell me what to do legally while working because of the lack of workplace protections.

See if you can pressure him into giving you those protections, it might work if you are lucky
