Why aren't we as friendly as other countries in Europe?

I always thought we were one of the friendliest and most tolerant countries in Europe and in the world but I seem to feel as though it's become very divided and less welcoming (maybe I'm wrong I don't know) but when I've been to places like Denmark and Italy, it's like people of all ages seem more social and welcoming. I think it's a shame because I seem to think we used to be like them but not so much anymore.
