Update: I made a new experiment on how to replace Debian with the latest Ubuntu, and it did not work. What I learned is that it was a fun experiment, but it did not work; it did work on older versions of Debian and Ubuntu.

I admit I never get tired of doing experiments like changing Ubuntu to Debian without reinstalling. I have Autism Spectrum Disorder, level 1, and that explains it.

I have fun little experiments that I like to do with things I'm interested in as well. I did a series of paintings of what I would have drawn if I drew what I saw when I was in High School. The series of 8 was called Monsters of the Hallway.

Hello FranzOren,

sounds like you are a keen hacker. I think a lot of hackers have autism.

I haven't time to read your earlier posts. Do you end up "bricking" some things? Do you have enough back-up and hardware to survive that?

I know that Ubuntu is derived from Debian, and they use the same .deb packages. I think Ubuntu would change a lot of architectural and configuration files, like stuff in /etc and /usr, and symlinks might get trashed or dead-ended. I guess this is why straight replacement doesn't work. I think Ubuntu's snap app store thing also creates more divergence.

I wonder, are you trying to avoid dual-booting?

Yes, on ChromeOS

Contemporary Ubuntu had deviated much from the Debian, notably it doesn't use GNU userland anymore (specifically, uses the Rust rewrite IIRC) and more and more package installation is done over Snap instead of APT, for the better or worse
