Sensory overload in where you live

I live in crowded southern Ca, where the hustle & bustle overwhelm me every day. I HATE thumping base, loud music, car horns, sirens, etc. One day, I'd love to move to a nice quiet place where the loudest noises come from the flora & fauna. I also find it's even getting difficult to enjoy TV programs, because most of the ones I like to watch have blaring guitar riffs during the show (no way to tone down this horrible noise) & even more noisy commercials (the mute button is great for this) between segments. Until then, I'm stuck in this overcrowded rat hole of a place because I can't afford to move. Sucks!

Where I live now is the quietest place I've been since I was a kid. I get very riled up with stereo thumping, screaming children, and so on. Total overload. One place I lived, I ran a white noise machine, wore ear plugs, and also put on those ear muffs people use for shooting, all to block neighbor noise. It barely worked, and I couldn't calm down enough to really sleep.

My current place is great. A little noise, but totally ok to handle. Some times it's so quiet there is no noise at all. Amazing...

I'm living in a fairly quiet suburb in California, but I think constant car and bus noises would drive me insane if I moved into the city.

The only things that really get me panicky are my Dad coughing the morning (I can hear it anywhere in the house as if he's standing right next to my ear!), dogs barking and the dreaded lawn mower! I got a nice pair of comfy noise canceling headphones (Shure SRH840s) that I plug in to some good music and I can usually weather out the lawn mowers. Some random engine sounds on certain cars are like chalk on a blackboard; it's fairly rare I ever hear those though.
