please forgive my sloppy use of language. it is not really the twang i have issues with, but the sorry state of "country" music so popular nowadays that i find off-putting. i LIKE old twangy country music.

Etta James has a nice CD of old tunes like Someone to Watch Over Me and Weeping Willow Tree

this reminds me of the song "willow weep for me" of which, my favorite version is the original recording by irene taylor. ann ronell [the song's author] previously made her name by writing "who's afraid of the big bad wolf."

That's very nice auntblabby. I couldn't find Etta's version of that but here's
Someone to Watch Over Me, a song that makes me go weak. I'm just a sap.

you aren't a sap, but sentimental as i am. etta's version is fine, but i have always been partial to don mclean's simple and plaintive version. sorry i couldn't find it anywhere on youtube.

I feel for ya man. 99.99% of pop is s**t, and the rest is decent stuff (Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, Green Day, Adam Lambert, Fall Out Boy) that unfortunately gets labeled "pop" because it gets so much exposure. But - UGH. I can imagine. Miranda Cosgrove, Miley Cyrus, Ke$ha - -wake me when it's over!! !
