Peoples religions are usually based on where they grow up/what religion their parents have, not which religion has the most proof. There isn't much evidence, that's why most religions rely on faith to keep people believing. All religions are equal in my eyes, there is no reason to choose one over the other because they all have equal proof, or lack thereof. (Most of the people that would argue against that have probably never picked up a holy book other than their own, they believe their religion is the "one true religion" only because they grew up being told that.)

My 'religion' is science, and it is backed up not by blind faith but rather hard evidence. "The good thing about science is that it is true whether or not you believe it or not"

I have friends of many different faiths - islam, mormonism, and my whole family is christian. I respect religion up until they bring their anti-gay, anti-women bigotry into politics. If you don't agree with gay marriage then don't get married with someone of the same-sex. If you think abortion or birth control is wrong than I respect that, but don't try to take other peoples rights away just because your holy book says it's wrong.

A decent sort - i.e. a nice enough person. It's a compliment.

The "believing in science" thing is just a derogatory term used by atheists to put down the religious.

Science is uncertain. One day they tell you that drinking coffee is healthy. Tomorrow they'll say that it's not, and that it may cause cancer. Next month they'll say that drinking coffee is good for the heart. Well, I don't know how people can trust these things without any questioning.

Science is not always right, but it has the advantage that it is evolving. Given time, the scientific community finds falsehoods and errors and corrects them. This is directly opposite to many religions, who require as a foundation that they have been right all along, and thus ignores hard evidence favoring instead unbacked faith. This is what makes science trustworthy: It can admit it's been wrong.

Yes, that may be right, khh. I agree with you, but it's not the same with all religions. I think this is clear to those who were brought up in a Christian environment, for example.

I just can't trust something that's uncertain (or incomplete). As I once said in another thread, our minds are too small, they're all but nothing in this huge universe in which we live. What makes us think that we'll have all the answers (including about the origin of everything) correctly?

Even if it wasn't that clear (you being an atheist), it's really good to talk to someone who's respectful, just like you. This is the proof that we can disagree but still be respectful to someone else's ideas.

I was once agnostic (I believed in god, but I didn't go to any churches), but I've been a baptist (the only church that I've "visited" the most, so it is the only church I know)

Im a christian I am a strong methodist I have a lot of jewish and muslim friends simply because all three of our faiths belong in the same family

I was a Christian at one point in my life, but I found that what I believed in really didn't make a difference in my life and that what was indifferent would still remain indifferent. I'm more of a believer in what exists in the world and the facts of the world. Plus, the mountains were around before any religion (shoutout to whoever gets the book I'm loosely referencing). I think I'm more of an atheist or agnostic atheist but I don't really feel like thinking about things like that because I don't think it matters really.

Wait, so you're friends not because of similarities in interests, but because of similarities in religion?

I'm a Lutheran but I believe in evolution as well.
