My seizures are grand mal. First had them when I was 4/5, then again at 13/14. Under control with meds since. Had no aura, they just hit. I'd wake up an hour or so later feeling completely wiped out and know by that total exhaustion that I'd had a seizure.k

I'm fortunate that they are controlled with meds, so I can drive.

The one trigger that I'm certain of is caffeine: I had a breakthrough seizure about 10 years ago after I started drinking coffee, 3 or 4 cups a day, after never drinking it before. The state wanted to take my drivers license and I had to hire a lawyer (who dealt mostly with drunk-driving cases) to fight to keep it.

When I was 14 the neuro tried many meds on me, tegretol, zarontin, depakote, and someting else I've forgotten, before Dilantin stopped the seizures. Been on Dilantin ever since, with a brief try of Keppra, which got discontinued cause I started getting suicidal. Oh yeah, phenobarbital was the other med tried way back when. The dosage required to stop the seizures also drugged me into total apathy.

I have epilepsy since I was 11.My seizures vary.I think the reason I do have seizures is mainly due to my AS.I find coping with my AS more challenging than my epilepsy because I am so use to it even though it can b crap.My epilepsy is not as bad as it use to be.Now I would a 1 to 2 seizures a month.

I am a bit of a worrier and would b a nervous driver so driving doesn't really bother me at the moment but when I have kids I"d say it will b different.

In my opinion the longer u have epilepsy the more u get use to it.

Does the medication that u take affect your mood at times for example feeling depressed, angry and tired?

That's quite accurate, I think. My neurologist has told me that I'm a good candidate for surgery. Now, I've never really like having epilepsy. However, when he said there was a possibility I could be rid of seizures, I admit I was not too fond of the idea. I mean, I've lived with seizures my whole life. It's what's normal for me. When I was little, I thought it really was normal. I wondered if perhaps there might be something different about my brother who took no meds, and didn't go to a different doctor.

My meds have always made me feel tired. Sometimes I feel I have more energy when I don't take them. However, when I don't take them, I begin to feel tired as well. That usually happens before I get seizure. I've always felt angry that I take meds. I mean, they cost an awful lot of money!

I know that it's a contradiction in that I don't want to get rid of my seizures, but then I kind of do. Then again, like Giskard told Daneel. Humans are not logical. He stopped trying to make sense of how they can have two contradictory emotions. Now he simply marvelled at it.
