What Lee Atwater was known for playing was the ROOTS of classic rock ( the blues), not classic rock itsself.Along with Belushi and Akroyd ( as the Blues Bros.) he was into keeping alive the music of BBKing, and Muddy Waters, et al. And the Sixties style Memphis and Chicago style soul that was close to the blues.

The least 'autistic' kind of music is probably Black Gospel music (kirk franklin, mahalia jackson).

Its about group, and community.

Any kind of medititive music, including Gregorian Chant music, would be the opposite ( religious or not).

The important thing here isn't whether it's actually metal or not, but the attitude of the hair bands. AC/DC definitely isn't a glam metal act, but they are still more "NT" than Iron Maiden, and to a lesser extent Judas Priest.

Re nerd rock : give Iron Maiden a try. Long, involved instrumentals + lyrics drawn from Science Fiction, History, Literature and Horror.

The most non-NT rocker I can think of is Frank Zappa.

Nobody would love metal and disco back then or at least admit to it. It was considered as opposite as the most Autistic person on the spectrum and the most NT person. Heavy metal and most rock fans loathed disco and it got ugly and violent at times.

Zappa is interesting. His dad was a engineer and mathematician, the man was brilliant and "different". But he did look very comfortable in interview situations. The best interview subject in the history of rock in my opinion. But you would have to know if he faded in lengthy chit chat have repetitive patterns etc.

What are you talking about? I'm Autistic and hair metal is my absolute favorite genre of music—in fact, it's the only genre I listen to anymore. I don't think it's possible to say whether or not a given genre is for Autistic people since we're all different.

I think the least autistic music would be songs bragging about how popular they are. Like rap songs about clubbing & how many women(or using more vulgar words) they have or glam rock songs about partying & having sex with lots women.

I did title the thread Genres/Scenes. From the 70s through 90s genres of music were closely associated with certain types of people and scenes. In 2024 all of that is irrelevant, people like the old stuff purely for the music That is something I have become aware of in the 13 years since I created this thread due reaction videos to old music by zoomers becoming a popular type of youtube video.

The first thing that kills my interest is monotony and unvaried repetition.
For this reason Doof, Trance and 90% of Techno just pisses me off.
If you can't toss in a change every 10 bars I wouldn't call you a musician.

My main requirement for any music is high energy.

It may be unusual for WP, but I like a crowd, and I don't mind sticking my head in a W-bin.
If they were playing the 1812 overture I would be standing between 2 cannons in B flat major, waiting for the full body concussion. (Try standing next to a tank when they fire the main gun! but don't forget your earplugs AND earmuffs. Concussion is why I got my pyro ticket.)

I love a mosh pit, and that's where you'll find me if I'm going to sing along, otherwise I'll find a corner where distortion is minimised and people watch.

I must admit a little confusion that someone classes accadacca as metal...

Metal loses me when it gets monotonous, the same when punk becomes Oi.

But come to think of it...in musical structure gospel is the same thing as the blues. But lyrically gospel and blues are the opposite of every dichotomy: religious vs secular, heaven vs hell-on-earth,and community vs the individual.

It was the blending of the two that spawned soul music. And as Ringo Starr observed "country is White soul".
And both country and soul run the gamut - of social to nonsocial.
