You should ask DDD that same question, if you haven't already.

If you did, what is their answer?

Same thing he needs to put the money in there, and he refuses to do it.

I see what's going on.

Your father's trying to control the situation and use his leverage for that control.

In a sense, he's trying to blackmail you.

Frankly, even though this might be true, I would still live with my dad until you get the housing.

Otherwise, you will be stuck.

Remember, what I said is only my impression.

What I mean is: he seems to have laid out a condition: Unless you live with (him), he won't do the alimony thing, necessary for you to get housing.

Unfortunately, you can't "force" him to do it. But, if you still want to live with your mother, you could gently appeal to him to do it--tell him it's the proper thing to do for his son.

My impression, from what you've told me, is that DDD said that your father must do x (the alimony thing) in order for you to get y (the housing).

Am I right?

If living with your father, despite his game-playing, would be the "lesser of two evils," I would definitely do it.

It's the "ends" justifies the "means. The "ends" is you getting independent housing, the "means" is living with your father. You might not like the "means," but it will get you the "ends" you wanted.

I feel like living with my mom will eventually turn into a dead end. I assume you believe that's true. Is there any last resort card I can use before moving in with him?

I don't see any, at this point, if you want the supportive housing.

There is another option: save up, and get an apartment on your own.

Your father is too slick for words.

You could appeal to his morality, his fatherly love for you. You could say, in essence, that it "would be the right thing to do."

1st option seems right.

Second option will take me too long and by the time I have the money for that my mom will have left me behind or I won't be able to get my life together because I'll be too old.

Now you're thinking sensibly.

Good luck! I hope everything goes well for you.

Hi duck,
Do you know why your father wants you to live with him? I'm wondering about his motivation.

I guess it could be for his SSI or SSDI money.

He does have a job. If he's on SSI, he can't make more than about $2,000 for the year, nor can he have more than $2000 in the bank. SSDI: I tend to doubt he's on that, unless it's under a parent. There are less restrictions with SSDI

He really seems to want to get out of the house. He doesn't feel saving up will get it for him.

I know what you mean, though.

Update: I am totally stuck. My dad's putting up a decent fight and my mom wants nothing to Do with me. I need another way to solve this problem.
