My blood pressure has been as high as around 180/120. It's usually been at times when I was in pain or stressed. But it's been really high even when I've only been a bit stressed. It's usually around 135/90 to 140/100 ish. Sometimes it's normal or even low, though :?

I don't mean to sound like a naggywort, but for somebody young those are a bit worrisome. normal for younger folk is closer to 120/80.

My father had high blood pressure since his teens. He was a skinny kid, too. He's also never really been overweight either. I'm guessing genetics.

Thanks :) I usually take good care off my health. I think some things can't always be avoided, though.

may not be able to totally avoid certain things but at least you can learn better to roll with the punches.

Yes I love salt. When I visited the Lake Eyre grabbed hand fulls of the stuff. I don't have high blood pressure so I eat as much as I like.

I definitely eat a lot of salt.

Same here

I add it to everything.... but then again I add chilli powder to most things as well :S

I like strong tasting food salt helps but it depends on the food of course. I might use fish sauce or soy sauce for the same effect.

You can actually try using vinegar instead of salt if it's the flavours in the food your trying to stimulate and it's not the taste of salt you want :)

I like the use of lots of fresh herbs, flavorful without relying on salt. Other things that impart good flavor are high-quality oils (extra-virgin olive oil, etc.) and balsamic vinegars.

I wish somebody would invent a fake salt that tastes salty but with none of the bad health effects. if they can make fake sugar and fake fat, why not fake salt?

My spouse had to cut back, so they use a fake salt that substitutes potassium for the sodium in NaCl. Ironically, I can't touch the stuff, as I'm on a potassium sparing drug & would risk hyperkalemia. I also think it tastes like biting on aluminum foil. Because my ℞ is also a diuretic & because sodium and potassium need to be kept in balance, I put salt on my salt in order to feel right & drink 4-5 liters of water a day unless it gets hot out. Blood pressure is checked every 6 months and it's right in the middle of normal, sometimes a bit low.

I use 39% sodium soysauce [sodium reduced by 61%] and half-salt. no-salt to me tastes like what I imagine battery acid to taste like. it is good that you have normal BP.

Okay, so in order to figure out what 39% soy sauce is, I started researching. Auntblabby, you just made my spouse very happy, as my search led me to recommendations for this product with an astounding 145mg / Tb (not tsp!):

http://healthyheartmarket.com/search.aspx?find=china+soy

*and* the rest of the site looks good, too - it's like they already did the comparisons and found all the very lowest sodium products. I do NOT have any experience with them, nor am I endorsing them. I just think 145mg/Tbs is amazing. It might even taste like something other than salt!

that is a decent price for such a low sodium product that is 1/3 the sodium of mine [about 500mg per tbsp.] but mine costs a buck a bottle of that size, at my local fred meyer store. so for now I will stick with it unless I can find that china soy somewhere local where I don't have to pay for shipping. thanx for the heads-up on that! :chef:

I do salt my food often. They're best put on rice with fried viands because frankly, plain steamed rice is practically tasteless. Then down it with soft drinks if there's one... Been doing that as long as I can remember.

... And my blood pressure remains 90/70 since first I checked 8 years ago and it still that way, while I'm turning 21 soon. Granted, I'm 5'4 and less than 50 kg (Around 110 lbs) and even eating around 5 times a day for months didn't gain me a thing.
