An Animal Ambassador is often an animal that either was too injured to be released back in the wild and was trained to educate, or it was born in captivity and not suitable for release, or sometimes zoos will use domestic animals. The hope is that if you see animals up close, you will end up caring more about them.

I think that’s really neat that we’re helping the animals who need some help, as well as educating the public. :D

Do you think I should be honest about the fact I can't lift much?

Are you sure this job requires much lifting?

How much can you lift, anyway?

My mother can't lift more than 10 pounds, ever since she had cancer surgery 35 years ago. She's managed pretty well despite that.

I would say you would be okay if they don't specify a weight that an employee could possibly lift. Did this employer specify a weight?

No, but I will ask...

Less than 10 minutes and they should be calling...

Not suitable for me.... Involves supervising kids overnight, I'm not good at that at all...

I'm not good at that, either.

It's a lot of responsibility. You were probably wise in not taking the position.

Usually, if there's no weight specified that one has to lift, that means you probably don't have to lift more than 30 pounds or so.

Wow, supervising kids overnight is an entirely different set of skills than presenting animals to the public.

I’m sorry the job didn’t come through. :(

When Covid clears, they will be hosting programs where kids get to sleep overnight at the zoo... I found out part of the job would be being the only adult present throughout the night.... Sounds like my idea of he'll... 8O 8O 8O
