Am similiarly convinced that gaslighting comes under this heading.. but will not go into the amount of times ,that
have been through it. And many have damaged my trust so much . That my naivete was becoming a real liability.
But It keeps me thinking the world is nicer . Have been scammed by entire legal depts of the county. At a very bad time in my life . And still dumfounded, how they can sleep at night . Sheriff dept. prosecuetors office ,their homicide dept.
Their coroners office . You would not believe it unless you lived it. People ignoring obvious facts ,to get a trio of murderers off . Finally beat the situation in civil court. But my lawyer turned out to be friends with the prosecuetors offices lawyers friend, another Lawyer yet .So he would not goto court to address the civil issue after he spoke to his buddies . Made excuses, then wanted another 25,000 dollars I did not have to give him .Left me in hoc, for many years.
Could not get another single lawyer in that entire county to help me. Had to wonder, if there was a lawyer blacklist.
So had so many of the above types of calls on the phone . that were constantly trying to scam me. I had to find a
a call blocking machine? that connected in line with the phone. And I got good at learning how to figure out blocking on portable devise .This is just a tip of the iceberg.Been getting targetted for naivete since I was very small..

A toll road is a road which you have to pay a toll to drive on in order to pay for the road. They are often built by private companies who then have a contract to operate the toll roads and keep the tolls until they make their money back along with plenty of interest/profit.

It used to be that they had manned toll booths, one per lane, at various places along the route. The drivers would slow down or stop to pay the toll. Often, there was a basket at the toll booth and they could toss the money into the basket.

A few years ago they introduced the use of transponders that would be used to record the vehicle and to bill the driver's account automagically. I think that they now often use license plate readers, but I'm not sure since I haven't been on a toll road in about thirty years.

I am extremely skeptical of any phone call, email or text these days. There is a TON of fraud going on. Really bad actors. AI and voice simulation will just make the problem worse. They can, today, call up sounding like someone you know. You would not know that you are talking to a computer.

Years ago, before the Internet became so widespread, Nigerian scammers would send their scams through the mail. I think that it was common for them to counterfeit the stamps as well.

My next to the oldest brother was convinced that the scams were legitimate. When the web was about a year old, I was going to post one of the letters he got on m web page and he objected strenuously because the letter requested that the receiver keep the matter confidential. I could not get it through his silly head that have no legal or ethical duty to keep those letters confidential.

I did post some I had received on my web page. Some years later my personal web page was one of the top three results returned by Google if you searched for "Nigerian scam".
