Research published to date suggests that approximately 83% of all cases are attributable to genetic causes.

The remaining 17% remains an unknown (in mathematics, you'd use the letter "X" to define it)

You are a wealth of information my friend. Thank you for all of this. I know I haven't commented on much of it but I'm reading all of it. So much to think about. Feel free to share more if you like. Actually, I'm curious to find out what you know about the genetic aspect of autism and schizophrenia and neurodiversity in general.

I was very skilled at Mathematics as a young boy. But I didn't get to carry that skill into adulthood unfortunately. I became very troubled as a teenager and have never recovered from that.

But this is the joy thread... :D

Oh friend, I could get lost in my own home. Just throw a book in my path and I'll be there for days. But you are welcome to share whatever brings you joy, even admitting the hard times. I'm so glad you came to say hello. Hello!

Hello Lily. I associate Montana with Steve Albini and the Unabomber. I'm sure it has some more lighthearted folks too! You seem nice. Thankyou for the lovely welcome! What have you been reading lately?

The Unabomber lived in a cabin in Lincoln, Montana. I used to drive through there a lot when headed east. I live on the west side of Glacier Park. Lots of bears and tourists here. Do city folk take pepper spray with them when they go bike riding? Because I do. All the time. We get Grizzlies coming to into town this time of year.

The last book I read was called The Lost Apothecary. I love piecing puzzles together and even though it was a simple read, I couldn't put it down. I am always looking for a new suggestions for books, if you've got any favorites.

I just read the premise of The Lost Apothecary and it reminds me a bit of Perfume by Patrick Suskind. Have you ever heard of that book? Bears went extinct in the UK centuries ago, so I can't imagine what it's like actually having one in front of me. They are stuff of Youtube videos and documentaries for me. Grizzly Man is a good documentary. The Unabomber almost certainly had Autism. He's my favourite! Just kidding. :D

walks alone in thick forest with hills and valleys bring me joy. I did it today. I feel a connection with the land, the trees, the hills, and the sky. I imagine the lifestyles and perception styles of the hunter gatherers, trying to see the world more like them.

Also good coffee

This made me smile. Coffee and a brisk walk through the trees on a chilly morning, watching the sun rise. :)

Oh wow, I am so old and I didn't know there were no bears in the UK. Er, you have wildlife, yes? Wolves? Werewolves? Serial killers? Oh yes, Perfume - I saw the movie. Spine chilling, scary stuff. And definitely ND. Makes me wonder how many story villains I can relate to more than the heroes. Not that I would ever do what he did, but I can relate with his obsession for discovering the intangible unknowns of the essence of life. Dream big! But wait, no, not like that. lol

For me, walking is a meditation on seeing and feeling as much space as possible. Then it becomes joyous
