I remember seeing this thread months ago and planning to reply - but of course I procrastinated about it.

Anyway - yeah I can definitely relate to this problem. It is really sad how many things I've planned for in my life that are undone or unfinished.

With everyday things I procrastinate because they seem so menial.
With important issues, I seem to procrastinate because I over-analyze situations and potential outcomes.

I don't see it terms of the standard "NT" procrastination; I feel that there is more depth to it than that. On the whole, for me, it is more a sort of fear of doing anything that means stepping out beyond my own space, and I just don't understand why.

I spend half my life paralysed with the "fear" of doing things, which I know I'm perfectly capable of doing. Again, I don't feel that this is the normal "NT" fear of doing new things. Everyone has some fear of the unknown, but the way I read it, once you've got over that first hurdle it should get easier and easier. Not me though. I can do a job which I am brilliant at, get a good result, get praised heaped on me, but when it comes to do the same thing again, the fear grips me and I'm back to the paralysis.

I wish I could find some way around this, because it causes all sorts of problems, because I'll quite happily commit myself to do all sorts within normally reasonable deadlines, and then fail through "fear".

Is it just me?

Wow I thought it was just me! I have the exact same problem. are you sure you are not me? if anyone figures this one out let me know.

I wan't to add I'm struggling with this issue now and am starting to get some work done after a particularly bad period
I will give an update to this thread if i find something that really really works.

My end goal is to eventaully be able to tackle everything on my task list in a timely manner and stop wasting time scanning the news and message boards obsessivly. I tdoesn't help that my job requires me to have a computer with internet access to get anything done so I can't just unplug the router.

Cernunnos,

I have the same thing. I hate new situations. This may only be tangentially related, but: I have gone into default on a loan. I have enough money in the bank to pay off the loan but I haven't paid it off because I'm afraid to face my creditors and keep putting it off.

Yes, me too! I even do this with online bill payments!

Actually, I'd rather say the best.

It took me six months to continue with a coursework. Finishing it took me 10 minutes.
A week ago I actually exercised and had a 10-hour anime marathon just to not have to make any work. Exercised.
I'm likely never finishing the tens of projects I have.

Might add more later.
Never.

I've always been bad at procrastinating... well, extremely good at it, I guess. I've been soooo much worse since my wife left. She and the kids gave me a reason to get stuff done; someone depended on me. And of scourse I'm a bit depressed now.

I've done that. Had to pay over $400 is legal fees. Just last month they threatened to do it again. I've spent time in jail and had to pay $500, because I didn't renew the insurance - after getting a warning! My car is broken right now, been driving another of mine (good thing I never got around to selling it ;)), but I don't have insurance on it or a proper tag. It's been a month, and problably wouldn't take but three or four hours to fix mine. (Sheesh, I NEED to finish that.... I'll work on that tomorrow.)

Honestly, I've been wondering if it was an AS thing or not, but never got around to posting it
