I guess we just all have different views on instant messaging. I don't liken someone "randomly" IMing me to some stranger coming up to me on the street. In my book, if I'm online, that means I'm open to chatting with whoever wants to chat with me. Same thing goes for if I post my screenname somewhere. There have been certain communities where I didn't want to talk to the people on IM, and therefore I didn't post my SN.

I will say a few things that will make the "other" crowd feel better though - I don't bug people if they say they're busy (except maybe if there's something REALLY important that I have to tell them/ask them about, but that wouldn't happen with a "random" person), and I do usually say who I am and where I'm from if I'm IMing someone for the first time. And again, I respect everyones views on AIM - I just don't necessarly agree with them.

So yeah, this is an open invitation for anyone on this board who wants to have a FRIENDLY conversation to do so. :)
