Also in Halo 3 the plasma pistol has a sort of EMP effect on vehicles, if I am online and there are banshees flying around in Vahalla for example, I will go in the bases and grab a plasma pistol. People often overlook them but one charge shot and vehicles sink to the ground, also usefull against wraiths aswell, but they can still shoot so you go at an angle. Or if you are trying to assinate a VIP, see it is not useless, it has a very interessting effect, also is bound to get peoples attention if you shoot a charged shot at them.

Hey, the farts in Oddworld: Abe's Exoddus were awesome. You could possess them and make them move around and blow things up to solve puzzles!

The Gunblade (Final Fantasy VIII): There is no way this makes any sense! If you can't even shoot people with it than what the **** is the point!? It's just a blade that has a trigger for firing blank cartridges in the grip to "increase damage"! !! If the vibations caused by a gunshot will increase damage of a blade, wouldn't an electric motor work just as well, or, better, if you want to combine a gun and a blade, get a rifle and attach a bayonet melee combat is exceedingly rare when everybody has guns!! And yes I know only a few people have guns in FFVIII, but still, be smart and join them!! !! !! !

The "Blaster Edge" (FFVIII again):: This thing is a wrist mounted chakram launcher that some gets the blade to return to the user like a boomerang! And have you seen Rinoa's limit break with this thing!! !??!? She shoots her dog off the wrist chakram crossbow thingy. Let me repeat, that half-assed launcher can sling a 60 pound dog! And Why does the dog explode upon impact!!? Dammit, hand grenades are not puppy chow!! !!.

The Chainsaw Bayonet (Gears of War): Don't get me wrong, the Lancer Assault Rifle in Gears of War is an excellent weapon, great rate of fire, good stopping power, decent accuracy, but the Chainsaw Bayonet under the barrel is ridiculous. I rarely use the thing, why would you when you can just shoot the ****ers. I know some think it's fun to use, but in truth, the shotgun is a much better CQB weapon. Finally, if a bayonet is supposed to be a last ditch weapon, why make a bayonet that requires fuel or a battery, and why can you not use the thing it your out of ammo, isn't that kinda the point of a bayonet!! !

OK, I wouldn't say the following weapons are the "stupidest," but...

Goo Gun (Painkiller Overdose): It can be really difficult to hit targets with primary fire, and ammo for either firing mode tends to be pretty scarce.

Poison Darts (Far Cry Instincts Evolution): They're mainly designed to "deaden" the feral abilities of Semeru's warriors, but other than that, not very useful. And, they replace the same weapon slot for the SAW, Sniper Rifle, and Rocket Launcher (why not take the pistol slot?) I could've gunned down the warriors in less time just using the SAW.

PAX Cannon (Crysis Warhead): OK, it's actually quite useful, considering it doesn't need ammo and you can kill almost anything with one shot, but... that's just it. Aside from the delay between shots, there's no real challenge to using it. And nothing particularly interesting about the effect it has on enemies either. It's just a big weapon with unlimited ammo.

Pissing on somebody? Someone hasn't heard of Postal 2  What about a silencer? A p**** cat 8)

I would use throwing knives in a game happily, it's not the fault of the weapon, it's the fault of the user. Mini-guns are useful when you know how to use one. A car can be a goo weeapon if you can handle it. If you understand physics the weapon of choice in a game becomes easier.

The gunblade from Final Fantasy VIII. I'm sorry, but it's just stupid. If I may quote a review of the game: "Guns are cool. Swords are cool. But when you put 'em both together, you're not always going to get Reese's Peanut Butter Cups."

You'd break your damn wrist using one of those things.

That is pretty silly, considering ranged weapons will always have dominance over melee ones. Why would anyone try to switch that around?

 @ the Squall Gunblade references. I enjoyed VIII very well.

The stupidest thing from that game though, was Rinoa's "Angelo Cannon" limit break, where she throws the dog (Angelo) and he looks like he's completely laying down the entire time. Now, that is silly. What's even sillier is that it doesn't even do all that much damage either. All that stupidness for nothing. At least if they were going to make me laugh at how ridiculous it looked (Quistis' blue magic "Degenerator" limit break, anyone? That crap could send people into seizures in no time) at least make it something good and usable.

 keyblade from Kingdom Hearts
I would like the game a lot more if he carried an awesome sword instead of a giant key.

I noticed a few people mentioned Halo 3 weapons. In defense of Halo 3, there is no useless weapon on the game. They are all balanced weapons with their own unique pros and cons; you just have to know how to use them properly.

Bad ways to use Halo 3 weapons:
spartan laser vs. oppenent who is very close to you
sniper rifle vs. close range weapon (unless you've mastered the no-scope headshot kill)
using a shotgun as a mid or long range weapon (same for the energy sword and mauler)
using a battle rifle in a very close range duel- the assault rifle would work better- battle rifle is better for long range when you can get headshots (it only takes 4 headshots to kill you're oppenent
rocket launchers are best for mid range because it's hard to aim them but get too close and you'll commit suicide

Really I could go on and on about why all Halo 3 weapons are great so I'll stop now.

There's this game that my brothers have been playing almost every Christmas where you blast a cat out of a cannon and see how far you can make it bounce. How long will it be before our culture emerges from its deluded, sadistic slumber?

I already mentioned that, but there are better ways to limit carrying capacity than to use weight which negatively impacts my combat where it shouldn't. Such as size carrying limitations.

True. The heavy weight issue was in Morrowind as well. I try to rationalize it as "weight is different there than it is here." I also think in terms of how dense the material is. But mostly I just don't think about it much. It's just a number.

I think the TES weight unit is smaller than the pound or kilo. After all, even the worlds best strongman wouldn't be walking around with 500 pounds of stuff all the time... whereas a character with max strength can carry 500 weight units...

A couple of years ago I caught a bunch of guys in my class playing a game like that, only you blasted them against a wall and the aim was to make them 'splat' as much as possible.

Could have killed 'em.
