I was originally diagnosed in 1986 as Bipolar and have taken lithium for about 20 yearss. Last year with changes at work, I was given 3 mg a day of Zanax (that actually worked to cut down my stress).

I recently was re-diagnosed with Aspergers. My world made a lot more sense to me after that. I'm tapering off of the Lithium now. While lithium is used with Aspies, I told my psychiatrist that it "tamped down" my emotions and made me feel flat.

I'll continue to take the Zanax ... I spent most of my working life on Wall Street and well ... everyone knows about that. I'm a little anxious about finding another job at this age and with my little "quirks" as I described them to my staff.

My advice is to not take emotion dampeners unless you need them. Other meds, research the side effects and work with your doctors ... if they work for you then good, if not then try something else.
