The rules are quite logical and simple, actually. The problem is that we Aspies have tremendous difficulty intuiting them. And analysing them intellectually is very complicated and time-consuming. One single rule can take me years to decipher, while it takes an NT a fraction of a second to grasp it intuitively and act according to it.

I'm not really sure I can relate to the lunch social thing; we only get 30 mins scheduled for lunch, and I go to the community refrigerator, get my lunchbox, and eat my sandwiches without talking to anyone. After I eat, I might go to the designated smoking area and listen to the other employees, but socializing isn't really encouraged or discouraged where I work.

The thing about social functions that bothers me is where alcohol is served (the company Christmas party, for example). When I've had a couple of beers, I'm likely to hurt a lot of people's feelings. ;-)
