There are other people like me in the world, who are miserable, and lonely, and feel as though people should care, but know no one does. And all these lonely miserable people are forgotten, usually not even remembered in the first place. That's why I have to do what I'm going to do. I need to be remembered. I need people to know what I was like, and that I was not alone.

i realized that a year ago. i really want to help people as much as possible. my ultimate goal is to join the peace corps. i know it's two years away from home in a foreign country but there are people out there who need help and i'd like to be part of that.

I feel like that constantly, but perhaps the same people that you relate to are simply paralized; keep your dreams. :)

The world is a pretty crappy place, the foundations of which is sheer indifference I'm sure. Ever heard of this story? I can't remember the details but I loved it as a child, where a man comes across a little girl on the beach tossing back beached jellyfish (from a mound of hundreds) back into the ocean, the man ridicules the girl's efforts and tells her that she could never save all of them, to which she replies,: "I know that I cannot, however, I can make a difference for this one-" as she tosses a jellyfish back into the water "and this one too." etc.

Maybe you can make a difference to but a few moments of your life.

I'm pretty much all out of faith in humanity, but then again, I am a misanthropist. xDD

It's a shame there arn't more utilitarians out there- maybe then you wouldn't be posting on this board.

Ah the jellyfish story.

I enjoyed your moment of realisation, if only to later chuckle at the basement cat remark.

I hope you are not going to commit suicide to raise awareness, because my fatalist mind decided to conjure up that image and it was not at all pleasant.

Here's hoping you just see that your not alone, as you stated, and that this valuable insight has given you the strength to keep working hard at whatever it is you are pursuing. I look forward to reading your, 'I am published, and people are buying my thesis,' or something pertaining to self-satisfaction post!

No, suicide wouldn't help at all. That's probably about the worst thing I could do if my goal is to make people realize that some people are truly miserable and not just attention whores or exaggerating their sadness.

Excellent point.

I think success followed by a declaration of misery to closest aquaintance would suffice.

What is it you are going to have to do?
