My mum took my favourite stuff away
"...I have discovered a means of removing almost all of the characteristics that define Asperger's syndrome in any child or adult. This simple procedure does not require expensive and prolonged therapy, surgery or medication, and has already been secretly discovered by those who have Asperger's syndrome. The procedure is simple. If you are a parent, take your child with Asperger's Syndrome to his or her bedroom. Leave the child alone in the bedroom and close the door behind you as you walk out of the room. The signs of Asperger's Syndrome in your son or daughter have now disappeared."
He was not kidding.
I know I might sound thick.... but I don't get this statment. What's he saying?
He sounds like he's joking or sarcastic. But Tahitiii says he's not, so I dunno what it means actually.
It seems to mean that the writer believes that the signs of Asperger's Syndrome are apparent only when the Asper child knows that he or she is being observed.

I get two other possible meanings:
1. The child, left on their own, won't have signs of Asperger's because they are not interacting with other people.
2. Shut something away, out of sight, and it won't bother you any more.

I feel sorry for you.
I think there may possibly be quite a lot of parents to take away stuff their son/daughter obsesses over. Although he hasn't done anything, my dad said he is trying to get me off SpongeBob.

thanks for answering my question, I get it now
as for stuff being taken away. My dad's like that.. I HATE it. He threatens a lot to confiscate my laptop and 9 times out of 10 that leads to a meltdown.
I have a massive meltdown one day when my dad threw my model aircraft around the room (I love my model planes) and that got me very upset.
I react pretty bad to the thought of stuff being taken away from me, I know it sounds extreme but it even makes me self harm, and before my diagnoses, I always remember feeling like that in my younger teen years and never knew why. My parents put it down to just 'teen behaviour'.
I wholeheartedly agree. Refusing to attend school is not acceptable behaviour at any age (including my own), regardless of your personal opinion of the institution. It is quite normal for parents to confiscate treasured objects from their children as punishment. It is not a form of abuse unless the intent is malicious in nature, and from what I can tell, it isn't.
As for all her other reasons for taking your things away, these are just coming out because you're already having an argument with her. She believes it anyway, it is merely easier to bring it up when she's already angry with you. Whether or not watching the same show for hours at a time is "healthy" or not is not really what the argument is about. It's about your refusal to go to school, and that indeed is "unhealthy", regardless of what your experiences may be there.
I would say that it would be far better for her to inquire as to why it is you feel the need to stay away from school, or for you to tell her, rather than her simply doling out punishment for it. But as long as you refuse to attend school, you can expect her to reprimand you in some way, and specifically how is entirely up to her.
I apologize if this post sounds condescending. It is not meant to be. I am merely supporting your mother's side of the issue.
