They've already had the first referendum to choose a candidate to go against the current flag (click image to enlarge):

No, it is no Finnish word but it does look like one. -- The silver fern flag looks nice. It is by far the best option among the several versions that have been proposed. Whatever decision you will make the Southern Cross seems to stay. This is good, I can't imagine your flag without it.

Learning suomi (lower case s!)* can be nightmare. The grammar is hopelessly complicated and the words don't resemble those of other languages. Ask Moomingirl.
