If you would like a reference.
The car is driven by the adult son of my mother's brother.

A Series 1 Jaguar XJ6 2.8 litre car from the same episode. This 'budget' engine option was generally regarded as being a bit underpowered, and was replaced by a 3.4 litre version in the Series 2 models.

Image

Dontcha just love those early XJ6 dashboards? Maybe a bit impractical for the driver though, when stretching to reach some of the switches! In the background we have a VW Beetle, a Rover P6 3500 and a Triumph Spitfire (orange car), not sure about the maroon one on the left, maybe a Renault?

Another Jaguar XJ6 Series 1, this time from a June 1974 episode of Coronation Street. These were amazing cars in their time, and the description still applies to this day, I would venture to suggest.

A Ford Capri featured in the television drama 'Tina & Bobby' about the relationship between former England football captain Bobby Moore and his wife. This is an early model, probably from around 1971. Never saw one in that garish shade of green before.

A Triumph TR7 from a 1977 episode of The Professionals. These were made by British Leyland in the period 1976-81 and were the last of the TR series. Typically for the company they were rather shoddily manufactured, and very few survived for more than a few years. In fact, the factory in Liverpool where the original model was made, was shut down after little more than a year.

A Triumph Dolomite Sprint from the same episode. These were made from about 1973-81. They had essentially the same engine as the TR7, but it was a more powerful 16-valve version, which was unfortunately rather temperamental. A former work colleague, who had owned one of these in the 1970s, told me that the car had dreadful handling and that he had to keep a large bag of cement in the boot in an effort to stabilize it.

Looks a bit like one of the BMWs from that era, doesn't it?

A Rover SDI from a 1977 episode of The Professionals. All the cars owned by the top-level government CI5 agency in this series so far have been manufactured by the old British Leyland (BLMC) company. This turns out to be no coincidence, as it appears that BL had a contract with the producers of the show to supply all their vehicle requirements. Needless to say, this being BL, it all ended badly after the TV company cancelled the arrangement owing to BL's inability to deliver cars on time and the unreliability of the cars themselves. That's why the iconic car of 'The Professionals' became the Ford Capri, after Ford took over the supplying of cars from the hapless BL.

Here's the car that Tony Curtis's character drives in The Persuaders, an ITV series originally shown in the UK in 1971 and 1972. It's a Ferrari Dino 246 GT.

...and here's the one driven by his co-star Roger Moore (as 'Brett Sinclair'), an Aston Martin DBS.

You guys got some great Taste in Cars, this is a great thread ! Those piks of the XJ 6 , and a spitfire in the background .
And every single one after that on this page. The Dino etc. a CV2. , these are precious cars .Brings back some great memories of film, and even past cars, I have personally owned long ago, when I had a job. The poor XJ 6 under powered. Found a transplanted V 8 ,in one of those. Late hubby bought it , with heavily modified drivetrain. Loved them in the movies . And Loved almost every single one of the AstonMartins.

From a 1971 episode of The Persuaders called 'Five Miles To Midnight'.

I think this is a Peugeot 404.

Don't really know where to start with this one though.
