you don't need to hit the lottery, just buy some cheap cabin and fix it up so you can survive in it and find some bullchit job to pay the minor bills.

...been considering that.
I don't require much, and minor carpentry, electrical, and plumbing isn't a big obstacle in my case.

I grew up in the suburbs and mindlessly bought into that lifestyle until property taxes got out of control. I bailed out last year and wish I had done it a long time ago. It's hard to make money in the sticks, but to move in with some net worth already, it's fairly easy as long as somebody avoids going for the high end nice house.
no cutting the lawn once a week or trimmimg the bushes, no worrying about the sidewalk or what neighbors think about your place or you, because there is hardly any and no subdivisions standards to try and keep up with.
If the roof ain't leaking and you have heat and working indoor plumbing, it's shelter which is the main purpose of a house, not to keep up with the Jones's.
