I listen to a lot of rock music, but out of all the rock I've listened to no rock song is as epic IMO as a certain song from the game Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind (and I don't even play video games much anymore). Anyways, the song is known as "The Road Most Travelled" on the soundtrack but that name is never actually apparent in the game (if I remember right). You'll know what I'm talking about, however, if you search for it on YouTube.

What song(s) do you consider "epic"?

I remember hearing that music in game. I have played a good 300 or so hours of it and heard it several times.

As for epic, I'd say Primo Victoria by Sabaton.

Really amazed on the rock that no one's mentioned Tool so far?

I did! :D So did blue bean. They're made of pure epic.

Also Muse are made from equal parts epic and cheese. In fact I think they are both more epic, and more unbelievably cheesy than Queen were.

EDIT: Ooh! Iris by The Goo Goo Dolls! 'When everything's made to be broken, I just want you to know who I am!' (Didn't actually know who wrote it until I looked it up. I'm shocked that it could have been made by a group called The Goo Goo Dolls)

Yeah, Muse is huge. Massive Attack is worth a mention as well.

Big.

This is something else that gets me every time (dubstep-wise), good contender for this thread:

There are three songs that immediately come to mind as epic. The first song (which happened to be playing when I saw this thread) is Tool's Aenima. I love the way it builds into the slide guitar part that breaks the tension so perfectly.

Song two is Anything by Black Lab. A great song that showcases just how cool an effect the Ebow is. Sorry, no video for this, but I have lyrics and you can listen here on Lala. The music perfectly suits the emotion of the lyrics.

it could have been anyone
could have been a woman or a man.
must have swept her away
made her forget who i am.
it could have been anyone
could have slipped me a drug.
must have been a permanent dose
make me forget who she was.
it could have been anything
could have been the time we spent alone.
maybe too much time together
maybe too close to the bone.
it could have been anything
any word i might have said.
just a look i might have given
just the angle of my head
(i forget).

but we come we go.
we say that we know.
but we don't remember
and we don't remind each other.
we come we go.
we say that we know.
but we don't remember.
no we don't recognize each other

it could have been anyone
any rumor passed around.
someone made her doubt me
made her head for higher ground.
it could have been any gesture or word.
maybe something i misstated
something she misunderstood (i would).

we come we go.
but we don't remember.
and we don't recognize
that maybe this time things might work out right.
maybe this time she might catch my eye.
maybe something anything could strike me blind
and i might remember her
and she might remember me this time.

it could have been anyone anything
the ring around her finger.
it could have been anything
any piece that's shattered on the way.
it could have been anything anyone
take another lover.
it could have been anything anything anything anything.

we come we go.
but we don't rememeber.
and we don't recognize each other.

The third song I think of would be Angel by Massive Attack. The bass line alone indicates something big is coming. I also love the guitar playing in the song. Massive Attack seems to do epic well.
