Yeah, they can claim they are cousins all they want, but at least 8 (one in each town) cousins looking exactly the same and being named Joy, makes no sense. Same for Officer Jenny.

Also, when Ash got shocked by Pikachu and burned by Charizard, how come he didn't get seriously injured?

Not to mention Team Rocket and all the Pokemon attacks they've endured.

How does Explosion and Self-Destruct not out-right kill Pokemon? [They seem to die in the Mystery Dungeon series, though, since they disappear! 8O ]

No kidding. How many times can a Voltorb, Electrode, or other Pokemon endure that?

The worst time is when a Stuntank or Golem uses Self-Destruct in Explorers of Sky next to several rare items and then the items are blown to bits as well [goodbye, rare Pokemon treat or equipment!]

^ gad yeah, that's really annoying!

I don't get it either, how Pokemon can use those attacks and survive.

Nor do I get how you can make a Pokemon lose all its HP without it dying. According to something I saw (in one of the manga IIRC) a Pokemon doesn't die when it's out of HP, it's just too weak to fight. But then why can't it be caught??

In the Japanese version, instead of fainting, the Pokemon are actually dying at 0 HP! 8O

I looked it up on Bulbapedia.

Quote:
Fainting (FNT) (Japanese: ひんし near death) is a status condition featured in which a Pokémon is no longer able to battle.
In the anime, fainting is referred to simply as being unable to battle. These Pokémon are not always unconscious, but merely do not have the energy, ability, or other reasons to continue battling.
http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Fainting
Near death doesn't sound appropriate for a game allowed for all ages.

^I often wonder how the Pokemon games [especially Black/White, X/Y, and Explorers of Sky] manage to get away with an E rating when I would rate them T instead.

Another bizarre logic:
Have Staryu become Water/Psychic when given a Water Stone, but let generations pass before it learns a Psychic attack move at all, and not let Starmie learn anything at all at first, and when it does, limit it to Confuse Ray (and before it would get to learn some of the good moves Staryu gets.
Pretty annoying as I really like the starfish Pokemon!

Likewise: Have Poliwrath become a fighting type but don't let it learn a single Fighting type move initially.

I love Gen 1, but that made no sense.

A lot of the things in Gen I don't make sense. Case in point: http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/EarlyInstallmentWeirdness/Pokemon

Also, how is it that Skitty, an adorable kitten Pokemon that knows Fairy type moves, looks like a Fairy Pokemon, and evolves by a Moon Stone, is still stuck as Normal?

Yeah, Skitty definitely looks like it should be a Fairy Pokemon.

Another thing that wasn't so much bizarre as a pity was that bugs were weak to poison in Gen 1 but never again. I suppose that could be due to resistance (if one wanted a logical explanation), but it's a pity as it would have made poison types more useful.

Apparently technology has come a long way too seeing as TMs used to be single use only but now they last just like HMs do.

The move Curse, as the only move ever, used to be type "???", then it became a Ghost type move in Gen 5. Did they suddenly discover it was Ghost?
I wish they had followed up on the ??? type and made something out of it.
