I sometimes doubt my sanity. We'll have the lovebirds out of their cages, and I'll start speaking in my 'Tweety-Pie' voice, interpreting what they're thinking ! !!
Is that a sensitive thing to do??
I was going to ask that in a pet thread, once. Do other ASpies carry on conversations with their pets, and think their pets are answering???

Oh good lord yes. Doesn't everybody? Well they don't talk to me in English, but with their movements and responses, I get ques from. I don't know if it's sensitive, it is just normal for me, does make me chuckle with their antics. I can put the dogs to sleep with my voice, but I'm pretty sure I do that here, too. Now don't get all senstive on me Prof, I didn't just call you a dog.

Prof, I know that TM is what you call your significant other, but what does TM stand for?

inquiring minds want to know. . .

When I'm by myself I do stuff I like to do. I'm also ADHD so have many things to do--make violins, play music, read, puzzles, run, walk, bicycle, play video games, draw pix, garden, sit and stare.

I like traveling, but don't like doing it with crowds

I would really like to hike the Pacific Crest Trail end-to-end before I get too old to do it.

On nice evenings, I like to sit in the back yard in front of my little chimenea and stare at the fire while sipping a drink.

I like to break horses that will buck. I like to build fence and fix fence for my cows. I like to do maintenance work on my tractor and backhoe. I like to cut and split firewood. Cook big meals. I'm 50 and female. I used to get made fun of, until I moved out West. My neighbors like the same things and they are older than me. The oldest ones I help and that help me are 78 years old. People out here accept me not talking or doing the social stuff. Some people think 50 and up is old.

Talking and laughing with my kids is my #1 fun thing to do. They make me laugh like nobody else.

I love to sit out on my patio in the spring and summer, listen to tunes, look at the trees, watch the birds and insects, and drink beer.

I enjoy Trivial Pursuit and Who Wants to Be a Millionaire board games. I usually win. I'm not bad at poker, either, despite the hateful numbers.

Art is another fun thing, and when the mood strikes, I will create with whatever is on hand. One time, I had no paper, paint or charcoals to work with, and I DESPERATELY needed to make art, so I pilfered some gold leaf from my husband's workshop. Used my fingers and some Q-Tips, the backside of a large piece of black and gold gift wrap, and made an Egyptian-flavored painting, hieroglyphics included. It's hanging on our living room wall.

My cat, hamsters and bird must endure my hideous voices every day. I sing to them, recite silly bits of poetry, talk to them in odd voices, speak FOR them...Since childhood, I've felt that animals "get" me. I truly believe they understand what I'm saying, and communicate likewise.

Pets like the sound of our voices, so I talk to mine all the time. They follow me around like a little herd. They communicate like dogs and cats because that's what they are. They have big screen cat TV better known as the screen porch. The dog has all kinds of things to do that are dog things. Here we appreciate you as the species you are.

Hey, Boots 1123,
I lived up in the Siskiyous Mountains in Southern Oregon and we did the same thing for years. I was never much good at heavy equipment maintenance, but I have built a working shelter and lived in it, figuring out the 'plumbing' and such, making it livable for a few years.

the guy that was working the land near the flood plain I lived on was 72 and taught me a lot.
50 ain't old.

Maybe this should be called, "What do OLDER people do for fun?" I refuse to think of myself as old, until it's beyond the shadow of a doubt. I think it was Jack Nicholson, who said, "It ain't the years, it's the mileage."
