Keep in mind that that's roughly 10% of the communication. Body language and the rest is far more important. It's why I question whether it's really true as of it really were true, then what we see in social interactions doesn't make much sense.
I have heard a similar statistic before. I am not sure how true it is though?
How would they even measure that?

Are they? Or is that just something that people say because from what I can tell, the standards for women are a lot lower in terms of "good with language." If I said half the things I've seen women get away with saying, I would have been beaten to a bloody pulp many times over.
Not that men are necessarily great with language, but there is a much more powerful incentive to not suck at language in the form of physical violence from getting it wrong.
Can you give conrete examples on that?
You know what, I think I found one:

This is always a tough one. It depends a bit on how you want to look at it. But, I've personally heard women publicly saying some pretty offensive things without any sort of fear of repercussions. I remember sitting in class when a woman gleefully spoke about how men should be castrated. Not to mention the various times I've heard all sorts of sexist dribble.
There's definitely freedom of speech going on that isn't equally available. Then there's my wife that comes from a culture where women can do and say whatever they like and outsource the responsibilities onto their husbands.
That being said, I do think that things likely will revert to some level of sanity in the future as more women are being arrested and sued over such bad behavior. But, if you really want to hear some horror stories, ask the poor guys that have to work around nurses.
Personally, I'm definitely skeptical that women really are such great communicators.A really good place to check it out is definitely with what men can say versus women can say when it comes to relationships.

It's not easy, but it's definitely possible. You'd compare something like written communication, either forum posts or IM against spoken communication like over recordings or phone against actual in person communication and see how much agreement or disagreement there is between the forms of communication. It is a lot of work, but as most people around here have probably observed, the right words alone aren't enough to keep you out of trouble if you're doing too many other things incorrectly.
You can potentially verify it yourself by just paying attention when you're posting things without emoji or talking on the phone and see how often a misunderstanding results. Or watch TV without the sound or captions turned on and see how much you understand about what's going on without the talking. Chances are it's a significant chunk, even for those of us that are less good than normal.

It may not be 10% in reality after accounting for experimental errors, but the difference is likely immaterial. Even if you double it, that's still 4/5 of the information being from other things. Just pay attention when you're typing out forum posts versus talking to somebody you know in person and see how much harder one is than the other. Even for those of us that aren't good with tone of voice or facial expressions, there's still a lot that we get from in person talking with other people that is lost without the rest of the information.
Or perhaps play a game of charades and see how quickly you get there versus a written text to somebody covering a subject they aren't yet familiar.

I’ve heard lots of sexist language over the years, which I won’t repeat at present, and so have many other women on this forum. It’s not like women are getting away with something that guys aren’t.
Most people do not face repercussions for emotional abuse or sexist language in a more general sense.
Current female members don’t speak against men in general, just men who’ve seriously harmed them and abusers in a broader sense of the word. Most males (and females) here are awesome. They do not take offense because they know that specific discussions don’t apply to them personally.
Let’s not make this a gender war about who has it easier concerning sexist language because it’s triggering for people who’ve experienced extreme forms of sexism - verbal and otherwise.
As far as communication skills go, it depends on the individual although women might be better communicators in general based in evolution. I can’t say for sure one way or the other, though, and there will always be exceptions. My communication skills in person are underwhelming. I tend not to talk much and am very shy.

Most men would be happy under a matriarch.

I agree, I didn't mean to imply that I've seen it here.
In general though, I'm not really sure that the difference is really that large either way, I just can't help but notice that a lot of the things that get blamed on hormones look suspiciously like a communications gap. I'm also generally skeptical when there's this common sense notion that one sex or another is better at something as it usually turns out to overstated or wrong.

Those sorts of things depend on a very specific set of circumstances. I wouldn't expect it to generalize. I'm wagering that other significant things were different as women being in charge had never lasted in much of the world, even when women do rise to the top.

It's the same in my family. When Mama is unhappy, she makes sure everyone else is unhappy.
