I have a friend who moved to Texas. She tells me that she hates it, so she doesn't see much nuance. However, she's stuck because she met a partner who has a child from a previous marriage with shared custody.

And as someone who lived in Oklahoma for the first three decades of my life, I can hardly find nuance with living in Oklahoma. I miss some of the food and friends/family. It stops there.

My new state isn't perfect... but at least those imperfections don't have to do with religious interference in my life taking away my freedoms and reproductive healthcare, and at least it doesn't have to do with low quality of living, healthcare, not being safe, etc.

The biggest pro for most southern states I can think of is BBQ.

So I'm not going to claim I see much nuance either.

Personally Oklahoma is one of my favorite spots in the universe but thats just me.

The biggest pro of the South to me is that the Church of Christ is biggest here. Its pretty much the main thing keeping me here for good.

We also have nature. Lots and lots of nature. So that's a plus.

Also even though I don't like knowing that our antebellum houses and plantations were connected to slavery, the ones that are restored like in my hometown have an undoubtably beautiful charm to them.

Also the south has its share of ghost stories and places said to he haunted. So that's definetly a plus for people into that sort of thing like i am.

So not that Misery is so much better , but one time attending an event at the Huge convention center, We got a
reasonable hotel room . Just off what was the first floor alley side of a otherwise nice motel/ hotel . Never have I "witnessed a person actually driving a car up to us "and panhandling from inside their car after driving up to us while unloading the bags from the car . Left a VERY poor impression of Tulsa that year. And their car WAS Not a ugly or bad looking car . So much for Oklahoma . .

I didn't see the full list, but it seems Texas and Florida have the largest number of people moving in, so somebody apparently likes it there.

Maybe they have high poverty rates because poor people move there in the hope of finding a better life.

Florida is not on the list but I know you dint see the whole thing.I wish people were not moving to Texas lol.
