Jack Carver from Far Cry - such a lame poser if you ask me

Do you mean the Jack Carver from the original game or the Jack Carver from Far Cry Instincts? Because I thought the latter was handled WAY better than the former, but that's just me.

Of course, but that still means they're terrible as characters. If a character has no personality, he's not really a good character.

Like I said, in many ways the player IS the character, so it doesn't matter as much. I hardly see undefined characters as being the "worst" heroes, because I'd much rather have a protagonist I could project myself into than one with a personality I couldn't stand. But again, "that's just me."

Gordon Freeman had glasses as well.
Dude from GTAIII would also give some hand gestures to motorists.
I think Serious Sam's best quotes was "ARRRRRGHHH!! Yourself"

I see nothing wrong with the characters from ID who were in Quake and Doom.

I'm not a fan of I think "MMORPG" ... can't get into them, but I can't think of any games with bad heroes... Except maybe Ron Jeremy

I mean Mario - they look so similar

You misunderstand. I'm not saying it's a bad thing; I think that sometimes it is good for video game protagonists to be "undefined." But that still means they're bad as characters. If the player is the character, then the actual hero of the videogame is practically nonexistant, a mere vessel for the player, rather than an actual good, detailed character who moves the story with his decisions.

I have played many bad games but the worst hero of all the games I have played would probably be the hero from an Atari 2600 game I got when I was 8 called Venture. In the game he appeared as a pink smiley face, his name was Sir Winkey. It was difficult to aim "Sir Winkey" at enemies with any kind of accuracy.

I'd probably say Jun from the Atari Tekken Series

Ah. I stand corrected. :) Apparently my editing skills weren't enough to take care of all the idiocy in my above post.

Rogue Squadron II: Rogue Leader must be what you were thinking about.

Acutally, he goes on my list of favourite heroes. I think he was a pretty good character in MGS2, a good change from Snake. He just struck me as more realistic and a great character all round -shrugs- :D

I'm not sure who I would put as the worst hero, I could name quite a few I greatly disliked though

Aww, I liked Christof. He was such a romantic. He loves Anezka even after she becomes a ghoul for a f**king Tzimesce. Now THAT'S unrequitted love!

I really enjoy the FF series but I must say that Titus looks like Meg Ryan. It bugs me to death. I would actually consider the games to have greater replay value if main char. didn't look like someone that a corporate board in Japan thought up for gender neutrality. Just make the main char a chick. That way you have some tormented girl who gets some guy who doesn't necessarily look like the leading female from a chick flick.

In many FF games, the fact that the male lead has long spiky super-saiyan blond hair, crybaby personality, and a high-pitched tenor voice (for those with voice acting) is what makes the male lead look like a girl. Thats one of the reasons I saw Squall as one of the better heroes... he looks a little more normal than most of the FF heroes, and he also maintains composure a hell of a lot longer than most other FF heroes except maybe Cloud. The fact that he's downright aspie at times also makes it easier for me to identify with him...

Also, many of the FF games also have the one badass male backup character that is usually way more cool than the male lead (Auron, Barrett, etc.), which contrasts with the male lead to make him look more effeminate. FF8 lacked such a character... You had Seifer who shouted all the time, you had Zell with the obviously fake macho thing going on, and you had Irvine who broke down under stress but tried to hide it and act cool all the time... basically, 3 of the common archetypes for an NT (which, in turn, make Squall's aspieness show out even more...)

So, I think Sonic is the worst videogame character ever... :P
