Everybody hates Elon Musk. He's a trust fund kid cosplaying as a techie nerd. Also, he engaged in illegal election interference in 2024 and helped Trump win.

It's weird as I can't find a single verifiable source confirming Musk inherited his wealth?. Only verifiable investment passed from father to son is $28,000 in a Musk owned company called Zip2 in 1995.

No doubt Musk grew up privileged due to Errol Musk's mining interests in Zimbabwe. He grew up in a well-appointed home in Pretoria, South Africa, specifically in suburbs like Waterkloof. The house was part of a privileged,, upper-middle-class upbringing during the apartheid era. His childhood was marked by access to, luxuries such as private schools, travel, and, later, a family-owned airplane.

However (like trump) he used his own business acumen and networks to build and expand his empire. From that perspective he's not really a trust fund kid who more typically lives a hedonistic lifestyle living off mom and dad.

I suspect, much like Fred Trump, Musk's old man wouldn't have let his kid sink into poverty. Making Elon "work" for it was probably a bit of cosplay, as it had been in little Donny's case.

I flicked through a recent biography stating Errol Musk's emerald business was illegal and collapsed in the late 1980s, leaving Errol with no income and living off his savings. He did plough his remaining $28,000 into Elon's Zip2 in 1995 which he (Errol) held a 10% equity. Elon Musk subsequently grew Zip2 and sold it to Compaq in 1999 for $307 million, netting Musk $22 million. This capital provided the foundation for his later investments in X.com (PayPal), SpaceX, and Tesla.

Still a helluva lot more money than my dad ever left for me.
