Thanks JKrane, for the info about adrenal exhaustion. I have had a weak bladder all my life, and too much stress all my life, and have been a salt-aholic all my life. I am also on the spectrum. I guess this all ties in, at least in my case. I've tried no-salt, and low salt substitutes, but end up using more of them, because they aren't salty enough. I finally gave up on those. I am not fond of hot spices, but as I've gotten older, i've gotten to like having some spices, including a little bit of cayenne pepper in some foods. I also use loads of powdered garlic, and occasionally minced garlic. Don't care for onions, but do like BBQ sauce with tomato sauce in it. Last year I started adding cayenne pepper to my hard boiled eggs, on top of the salt and garlic powder. I think the eggs taste better now that I do. I also add the pepper to smashed taters, savory corn mush dishes, and some other starch dishes. I sometimes use Bullseye BBQ sauce on meats, and even the mild version already has some pepper in it, so I don't need to add more.
I've been a salt-aholic all my life, and never had a resting blood pressure issue until a recent doctor visit, and even then, it was only slightly elevated. I think there are people, like myself, whose biochemistry needs the extra salt. Don't know why, but I know I crave salty foods. I am not big on sweet foods, but do eat a lot of sweet fruits, and sweeter, but no sugar added fruit juices. This generally satisfies my taste for sweets, so I don't often eat cakes, cookies, etc.
I think you need to go by your own biochemistry, as to how much salt to consume.
