Why is satire a crime?

I have no need to appeal, I accept my punishment, but how would one appeal against a warning that one feels is unjustly administered Walrus?

You should send a private message to a different moderator.

You have no formal warnings. I think this was supposed to refer to a very specific context - a last warning just for one discussion, if you like.

WrongPlanet has a rule against personal attacks. One cannot spend an extended period of time throwing around personal attacks and then, when warned, respond "it was just satire, bro!"

If a user wants to try to be funny then that's fine (although of course there is no guarantee that they will succeed). However, humour is not an acceptable cover for bullying.

I was quite proud of my level 6. Disappeared recently though, I am a free man apparently.

I think the 12 month timer refreshes with each warning, at least that would fit my observations. I didn't get my six all within 12 months. 12 months clean and you're off the Alex Offenders' Register so to speak.

When/why did I get a warning?

You should have received a PM with a title like “board warning issued”.

What do warning levels mean?

Nothing really. It’s just a simple count of the number of warnings you have received in the last 12 months. It only counts formal, not informal warnings.

When deciding on further action, mods will consider a user’s behaviour in total - how serious were the warnings? Have we recorded any informal warnings that were unheeded? What is the user generally like? What have they done this time? So if a new user starts spamming links to love potions, they’ll be banned straight away, but if an established user has three warnings for three very different things as a one-off then the third warning won’t automatically lead to a ban.

Generally however we start thinking about a short term ban to go with the third warning, a medium term ban with the next warning after that, and either a permanent or long-term ban after that. But this depends on the seriousness of the offences, how closely the offences took place, what we generally know about the user, etc.

I don’t really think this number should be viewable, and I think Alex might have accidentally made it viewable. I think it tells you too little and is clearly causing people distress. I know other sites have had very clearly defined systems but here we do not due to the technology used.

Thank you for the answer. I kept checking my profile to see if my warning level had gone up yet.

Can be sometimes. The mods have/had fun creatively interpreting the rules or even inventing new offenses just for me. eg. bringing up an old personal attack directed at me is actually a form of personal attack when I do it. Ah we do have our fun. Still they haven't banned me yet, so I can't complain too much.

I was under the impression that when I served my "sentence", the number of warnings would have been reset to zero.
I now know this isn't the case.

So, Where do I stand now?
Do I have a new set of allowances?
Is there a waiting period (a year?).
How many warning do I get now, if any, before I am banned again?

Firstly, I don't bully.

The last warning you gave me said I was implying people were stupid.
You obviously missed the satire of my saying "I am the smartest one here."

You don't have a good understanding of satire, imo.
And you don't have a good understanding of me either.

Quote:
Four Techniques of Satire

Exaggeration. The first step to crafting a successful satire is figuring out what you want to exaggerate. ...
Incongruity. The second technique of satire is all about inserting things into out-of-place environments, juxtaposing them if you will, in a way which makes them appear absurd. ...
Reversal. ...
Parody.

Maybe the problem was they saw your statement as an attack becuase they see themselves as "the smartest one here." and you were denying that "fact" by claiming it aplied to yourself?

Just a thought :)
