I was going to say the same thing but that made me think of a dog that I still miss terribly and I got a little depressed. Is it weird that I get more attached to animals than to people?

A dog is an excellent companion, but is in no way equivalent to a girlfriend.

I'd say you need new parents. Or at least stop listening to the ones you have.
